TurboGrafx 16 Console surprise hit and run
10/20/2015

A few weeks ago I was talking to a new found friend of mine.  We got on the topic of old skool’ video games for sale. I expressed to him my interest in collecting vintage video games.  To which he replied, ‘oh, I think I still have some of that stuff from when I was kid in my basement‘.  I asked him if he wanted to sell the games and consoles. He was hesitant at first, but a few days later he sent some photos of his video games for sale.

If you’re like me, you instantly saw the rare Turbografx 16 game ‘Bonk’s Revenge’ in the upper right hand corner of the photo.  I pressed him for the sales and he reluctantly agreed.   I had never had gotten my hands on a TurboGrafx 16 before, one of the most popular video game consoles ever made.  I was stoked to finally have one of the rare game systems.

We agreed to meet at the local super store.  He was late to arrive, so I went inside for a drink.  As I waited he still didn’t show up. I was getting a little worried he wouldn’t meet and bring the games, at which time  I saw him walk into the store with a concerned look on his face.  Maybe he had figured out what his old game system is worth online.  We had already agreed on a certain price.

When I asked him what was going on he said, “I can’t believe what I just did.”  That’s when he told me he had hit someone’s car in the parking lot.  It had dented the door of the car and scratched his car’s bumper.  I asked what kind of car he had hit.  As I narrowed it down, it sounded more and more like my car!  I said, “Dude! I’m pretty sure you hit my car!” We went out to the parking lot, and sure enough he had crushed the passenger side door panel.  Of all the cars in the parking lot, he pulls in next to mine and dents my door.

Even with the incident my mind jumped to the games.  He got the games for sale out of his trunk.  I asked him how much he wanted for the games.  He said, “You don’t owe my anything, and we’ll handle the rest through my insurance.”  Not what I was expecting but I took it and told him, “Lets meet next week and you can bring your big screen TV!”

Once I got the collection of video games back home I started going through the box and found the rare Bonk’s Revenge was gone, but it didn’t bother me.  I still had a great haul of vintage game systems, including an SNES a hand full of games and a Super Nintendo Game Genie made by Galoob.  I’ll be going through all this stuff and will be selling the doubles.
