My name is Michael Lopez, and this is the complete and unabridged interview with Big Dad Ritch, frontman and founder of the Texas Hippie Coalition. A band that embodies the ass kickin’ , “Take No Shit” Texas Attitude to a tee. 

1. First of, are there any misconceptions people have about your band you would like to clear up?

“Yes… We did not murder those cattle thieves in Laredo TX. We killed them in self defense.”

2. What bands or genres influenced you and your style of music? We’re there any Texas bands that influenced your style?

Of course. ZZ Top, Pantera, Waylon & Willie.”

3. How did you get the name Big Dad Ritch?

“I’m big, I’m yo’ Daddy, and I’m Ritch, bitch!!!”

4. what was the inspiration behind your album “the dark side of black”?

“#NEGAN”

5. I love your song “Turn It Up ” what the story behind that song, and what was your main influence in writing it?

“It’s based on the commonalities of tittie dancers & touring musicians. Paths crossing. We make the music and they dance. Then we pay to watch them dance. So much in common, like massive relationship struggles, ya get me…”

6. As a native Texan I love going to the different venues around town like Fitzgerald’s, Walters, And Scout Bar. So my question is where did you have your first show? Also What type of venue do you prefer to perform in? Small venue, or large venues?

“Fat Daddy’s in Denison TX, and it was very small. I prefer the masses. But the energy from the crowd is always a good high no matter the size. Love the Scout Bar in Houston, by the way.”

7. What do you like to do for fun when your not performing ? Also what do you guys do before a show to get in the playing mood?

“Smoke weed, and smoke weed…”

8. What were your thoughts on Houston Open Air, would you play there again if they invited you?

“Hell yes…”

9. In your entire career What would you say was your most memorable show?

“Playing Rocklahoma for the first time…”

10. There aren’t many Texas metal bands that people really know about… Most only know about Pantera, so this is kinda personal question . Who is your favorite Texas metal band?

“There is only one… PANTERA”

11. If you could go back in time an see any concert of your choosing, what would you choose?

“Jesus & the Disciples…”

12. For the person wanting to become a musician, what advise would you give to help lead them in the right direction?

“Turn around. Teasin… Make sure you do it your way.”

13. What’s next For the Texas Hippie Coalition ??

Saving the planet & legalizing THC in USA!!!”
