UFC 229: Khabib vs McGregor Main Card Highlights & Predictions

0

Main Event: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor (UFC Lightweight Title)

Betting Odds: Khabib -149 or 5/8, McGregor +150 or 13/10.

A competitive rivalry has now become personal between two fighters who are stubbornly proud of their moral code. Each man feels disrespected by the other party, the incident at UFC 223 in which Conor McGregor launched a loading dolly towards a bus that Khabib was inside of is the moment this fight gathered global interest.

There’s so much more to this fight than the drama of the bus attack and the subsequent legal proceedings.

Conor McGregor’s last fight inside of the Octagon was a historic one, he became the only man to hold two UFC titles simultaneously (at that time) by defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November of 2016, UFC 205 was also the first event in the company’s history to be held at Madison Square Garden.

There was no contender that made financial sense for McGregor following the victory, he pursued a more lucrative opportunity instead challenging Floyd Mayweather to a boxing match. McGregor was unsurprisingly defeated but did his reputation no harm, he performed a lot better than many predicted he even stole a few of the early rounds before Mayweather eventually broke him down.

The crossover event as a whole was a huge success. A memorable press tour the likes of which we’ll probably never see again helped to sell 4.2 million PPV buys, only one event (Mayweather vs Pacquiao) has sold more. With a reported $100 million in the bank the gamble paid off, he didn’t win, though in truth he had almost nothing to lose, the Exhibition fight with Floyd has made him even more marketable than he already was.

Very rarely does a fighter gain something in defeat, now after almost two years away from MMA the biggest challenge of Conor McGregor’s fighting career is on the horizon.

A constant criticism of Mcgregor is he’s had favourable matchups, McGregor was awarded a featherweight title shot after beating one guy ranked in the top five and that opponent (Chad Mendes) stepped in without having a full camp to prepare. As a Lightweight McGregor was granted an immediate title shot & upon claiming the title he never defended it, in fact, McGregor’s held 4 titles in his career without defending any of them which is highly unusual.

Step forward Khabib Nurmagomedov, out of all the fighters McGregor has fought Khabib presents the biggest threat. Khabib’s fighting style is the polar opposite of Mcgregor who I would consider a specialist in striking, Khabib is a specialist in grappling. McGregor’s best performances can be easily quantified because they often end with a stoppage, no less impressive is Khabib who has fought 29 rounds in the UFC without officially ever losing one, 29 rounds in the deepest weight division of all without losing a single round, that sort of dominance is extraordinary.

Whilst McGregor was chasing fame & riches the promise Khabib had shown many years ago in his injury-plagued career was finally realised when he destroyed Edson Barboza to set up a title fight.

The championship fight was scheduled to be Khabib against Tony Ferguson, an injury to Ferguson in the weeks leading up to the fight meant it was called off for the third time in recent years. Al Iaquinta took Ferguson’s place in the main event, the vacated lightweight title would still be on the line for Khabib but due to Iaquinta weighing in two-tenths of a pound over the weight limit he was ineligible to win the title.

Khabib was victorious with scores of 50-43, 50-43, & 50-44, not his greatest performance by any means but dominant once again, more importantly, Khabib captured the vacant lightweight title.

McGregor is the most valuable fighter on the planet right now, he brings an army of fans wherever he fights, Popular even outside of his own country. There’s no athlete who is better at self-promoting an event than McGregor and that is what attracts the type of fans who wouldn’t usually buy a UFC PPV event. He brings a wider audience to the sport.

Khabib doesn’t have the same financial appeal, his following is equally loyal. A Dagestani born Russian representing a country with a population of 144 million people, on top of that a practising Muslim, an even bigger target audience of roughly 1.8 billion, there’s no shortage of love for Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The card is expected to be the biggest in UFC’s short history, both in terms of mass appeal and PPV buys, the UFC’s biggest star pitted against his toughest adversary.

Some fights have the chemistry to be all-time classics, this one not so much. Khabib is strong in McGregor’s weak are, McGregor is strong in Khabib’s weak area. The only two outcomes I see are Mcgregor knocking out Khabib early or Khabib wearing McGregor down with his wrestling. The interest surrounding this fight is intense, probability wise it’s as close to a 50-50 fight as you’re ever likely to see.

On paper you would have to give a slight edge to Khabib, McGregor has been out of the octagon for two years whilst Khabib has been active, he comes from a camp which boasts multiple current and former UFC champions in Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez, & Luke Rockhold. Khabib is undefeated without ever dropping a single round however, McGregor is a completely different animal to anyone Khabib has fought before.

The Irishman is capable of remarkable things especially concerning the mental game, he only needs a slight look to make something happen and that’s something you can’t explain with statistics, it’s an immeasurable quality.

Co-Main: Tony Ferguson vs Anthony Pettis

Betting Odds: Ferguson -310 or 2/7, Pettis +299 or 11/4.

This card top to bottom isn’t as strong as some of the other big UFC pay-per-view shows in years gone by but the two fights at the top of the card are worth the price alone.

Tony Ferguson is on a 10 fight win streak stretching back to 2013, only Max Holloway, Jon Jones, & Georges St-Pierre have greater active consecutive win streaks as of this moment. Ferguson has an unorthodox style which may not be easy on the eye, however, it’s undoubtedly effective.

He blends together all aspects of mixed martial arts in an unpredictable manner that opponents thus far have had no answer too, at least not in a long while.

The winner of TUF 13 has steadily improved over his 5 years in the UFC, had he not been the victim of a freak injury Ferguson may himself be headlining UFC 229. There’s never a certainty when it comes to number one contenders, in this case, common sense should prevail because if Tony Ferguson wins this fight he is the obvious choice for the winner of the main event.

All is not straightforward when it comes to matchmaking, Anthony Pettis who looked as good in his last fight as he did during his run to the title is hoping to throw a spanner in the works. A former champion at age 26 when he defeated Benson Henderson.

Pettis looked destined for a long reign as champion. He was usurped by Rafael Dos Anjos after managing just one defence before losing the flair that saw him light up the MMA world in his earlier career.

This is a dangerous fight for Ferguson, Pettis can rival him on the floor or on the feet, he has the ability to finish the fight in an instant. One of the most creative strikers, one of the most opportunistic finishers, stylistically there’s no easy route to victory for Ferguson.

Pettis is 2-2 in his last four so you wouldn’t think the same rewards apply to Pettis for winning this fight. A fighter who either looks overwhelming or underwhelming Pettis’s biggest problem has been inconsistent performances. If he can replicate the kind of form we saw him display between 2010 & 2015 against a fighter as good as Tony Ferguson then Pettis would be right up there with the top five in the division.

Anthony “Showtime” Pettis looks at his best under the brightest lights, at UFC 226 he turned back the clock with a crafty submission over grappler Michael Chiesa,

There’s also the possibility Pettis could provide another showtime moment like the jumping kick he performed in the final WEC event, the aggressive nature of Ferguson always gives his opponents a chance. Pettis has the tools to upset the odds.

Predictions

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor (Khabib TKO/Ref Stoppage)

Tony Ferguson vs Anthony Pettis (Ferguson Decision)

Ovince Saint Preux vs Dominick Reyes (Reyes KO/TKO)

Derrick Lewis vs Alexander Volkov (Volkov Decision)

Michelle Waterson vs Felice Herrig (Herrig Decision)

Retro Making a Comeback In Popular Culture

The Age of Revival: Retro Making a Comeback In Popular Culture (Again)

The term “retro” emerged in the 1960s describing styles that have been created in the past. Later, it has changed its meaning a bit, expressing a nostalgia for all the things that were better “back in the day” – music, movies, fashion, and whatever else you could think of, fit under this term. Pop culture has seen several waves of “retro” ever since – in the 1970s and 1980s, movies like “American Graffiti” and “Grease” romanticized the 1950s, in the 1980s rock music revived many hits from the 1960s, in the 1990s, retro moved forth another decade, reaching back to the 1970s, reviving disco and Philly soul, and every decade ever since reached back to decades long past for inspiration when it comes to fashion, movies, music, and design. Today, we live in an age when even the retro revivals of past times are revived, with a wave of retro video games, movies, musical styles, and looks serving as inspiration for designers.

Footwear

The Nike Cortez is one of the most iconic sneakers in history. It was the first track shoe created by Nike in 1972, and (according to some sources) named to mock Adidas’ “Azteca Gold” sneakers released around the same time. The shoe was introduced to the general public at the 1972 Summer Olympics and gained a lot of popularity. It is widely believed that without the Cortez, Nike would’ve disappeared long ago.

Over the last two decades, the Cortez was redesigned several times. Today, it is available in its original form under the name of “Nike Classic Cortez”.

Music

Although digital streaming puts music in the pockets of pretty much anyone with a smartphone, the seemingly outdated media used in the past to distribute music haven’t disappeared. On the contrary – in an age when CDs are on the brink of disappearance, vinyl has shown a significant increase in sales over the last few years. Audiophiles apparently feel that the vintage technology used to distribute music offers a much better experience than anything digital. But this doesn’t explain the recent surge in audio cassette sales – according to a Nielsen report, cassette tape sales in the US have grown by 35% in 2017.

Movies

Hollywood has been making remakes of classic movies for ages. Today, in turn, the Dream Factory’s output of remakes is becoming extreme. Hollywood reportedly intends to remake more than a hundred movies from the years past (that we know of), ranging from successful comedy franchises like Ace Ventura Pet Detective and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels to superhero movies like Batman and Blade, sci-fi action movies like Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China, horror movies like Firestarter and The Blob, not to mention the live-action remakes of classic Disney animated features like Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid.

Top Ten Fights in Martial Arts Movies from the 1970s

0
Stencil Bruce Lee by Giga Paitchadze

The Way Back

1970’s Wall by Evewoim Karams

The 1970’s were cool. I was young and had hair. The afternoons had endless small bowls of Peanut M and Ms, a baby sitter, and every so often accidental martial arts classics.

This was until the sitter changed the channel to a program that was more suitable for my age. I would still see bits and pieces of classics.

I got older. I watched Black Belt Theater. If I was not involved other Saturday activities I could see movies like The Five Deadly Venoms, Enter the Dragon, or Chinese Connection.

I still remember the bad voice dubs and the old film noise on some form of Cathode Ray Tube television. Below are some of the best fights of that era. Remember, this is just an opinion.

The Ten

  1. Chinese Connection (Fists of Fury)

chineseconnection by Golden Harvest Company and presented by Furious Cinema

This was the first Bruce Lee film I recall. Bruce Lee killed the people who killed his master. Everyone remembers how he screams as he destroys his enemy.

I remember how there was a hate for the Chinese in this movie. It was relentless. No matter what Bruce Lee’s character did, it made the situation worse.

Before he would fight the final boss, he fought this Russian character. This is the first time I had ever seen a thing like it.

In Five Deadly Venoms and other movies, often, the cast only had Asian characters. This particular character was a large, quick, formidable European character.

The Breakdown

Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, a style simply meant for the faster and more deadly fighter, takes on Robert Baker, Bruce Lee’s former student, with his own Jeet Kune Do. He is larger than Bruce Lee and made it point to prove he is just as fast. They exchange a series of kicks and punches that connect.

Each takes damage. In the end, The Russian resorts to grappling Bruce Lee’s arm and Lee returns the favor and bites The Russian’s leg.  Neither Bruce Lee or the Russian block each other’s attacks.

The Russian character ups his ability every time Bruce Lee does. In the end, Bruce Lee’s character enters another level of rage. He mesmerizes his attacker with a portion of his form  The Russian takes a fatal kick. Bruce adds another and finally ends The Russian.

  1. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin

36thChamber by Shaw Brothers and presented by Furious Cinema

When I was younger, I remembered this man’s face in many of the martial arts films I would watch on a Saturday. If it was not the 36th Chamber of Shaolin, it was The Four Assassins, Boxer Rebellion, or Executioners from Shaolin.

I recently saw Mister Chai-Hui Lui in the movie Kill Bill: Vol. 2, as the vicious master, Pai Mei. In Kill Bill: Vol. 2, he teaches The Bride true martial arts skills and persistence.

Chai-Hui Lui as Johnny Mo was cool too. In the 36th Chamber of Shaolin, I remember the main character, Lui, being persistent.

The Breakdown 2

He had to learn various martial arts styles to avenge an attack, and takeover, by the Manchu. In one scene, Lui develops the three section staff in desperation. He spars an adversary with a form of butterfly swords. He attacks him with, at first, with the typical Bo Staff. The weapon keeps enemies at a distance. However, butterfly swords jab and make it a point to capture enemies, discombobulate, and unbalance them.

For example, imagine The Price Is Right’s Plinko with a Bo Staff. Lui’s adversary moved past the length of the Bo Staff and simply turned the Bo Staff against Lui. At the same time, this adversary found holes to both skewer and disarm Lui. Lui returned to the adversary with a form a Chinese halberd, with a half moon shaped blade at its point. This weapon offered the same problem as the Bo Staff.

It has the length, to keep enemies at a distance, but adds a deadly purpose. Lui’s adversary turned the halberd against him. Like the the Bo Staff, Lui’s Chinese halberd was inflexible. Lui practiced hard with the Bo Staff and the halberd. However, inspiration came as he cut down some bamboo with the halberd.

That was the first time I had seen the three section staff. It breaks the Bo Staff into three flexible sections, connected by chains. Each length is enough to penetrate and harm an enemy. The chain’s on each section allow the weapon to capture, disarm and maneuver around any enemy’s weapon. The three section staff works at a distance. It also adjusts to defend, and attack, with short-range bursts. Lui moved around his adversary, in a third encounter, discombobulated, disarmed, and generally left him embarrassed.

  1. Master of the Flying Guillotine

Flyingguillotine by First Film Organisation Ltd. and presented by Furious Cinema

This was a movie I would see in parts. My sitter saw a fighter lose their head, in a scene during a tournament battle, and ban me from watching this movie for years.

It was dumb because you could see the beheaded fighter with a shirt over his head. He fell on the ground and you see his head move inside the shirt. It is still an awesome movie. This was the first movie, I saw, that had a variety of fighters, each with fighting styles from other countries.

The Flying Guillotine character would throw a bladed head case, with chain, and kill most of the one-arm men, in the film, by yanking their heads off from out of nowhere. He worked at a distance. The Flying Guillotine’s purpose was to kill the one-armed man responsible for killing his people. In the end, however, the true one-armed boxer confronted The Flying Guillotine. They had to use hand-to-hand combat against each other. The one-armed boxer almost dies.

The Breakdown 3

The one-armed boxer attacks with one real focus. His one arm can penetrate nearly anything. He does not use kicks. He literally attacks and defends with one arm. The key to his ability is agility. He climbs walls, flips, and evades the attacks of The Flying Guillotine. This blind fighter uses kicks, attacks with a fist, uses a hand made circular saw blade device, and a tank type martial arts style.

He goes through what he faces. The one-armed boxer would leap and evade the The Flying Guillotine. He would break his guillotine. The one-armed boxer literally penetrates The Flying Guillotine, ruptures his heart, with a massive punch, and sends The Flying Guillotine into a casket. The Flying Guillotine was just bad character. He could turn his head 360 degrees around.

  1. The Invincible Armor

invinciblearmor by Lai Wah Film Company and Furious Cinema

I recall something funny at the end of The Invincible Armor. These martial artists ban together to defeat the Iron Armor technique. They would try to attack Iron Armor’s nuts, but the Iron Armor technique could resist any attack.

That is when my sitter would come in and turn the film off. Hwang Jang Lee would train his body to resist anything, anywhere, on his body. However, the main character John, would master the Eagle Claw. The Eagle Claw is a bent finger technique meant to penetrate most any surface, or substance.

The Breakdown 4

The key is simply to insert your fingers, as claws, into enemies or objects with a dangerous blunt force. The Iron Armor technique is a time consuming method where a martial artist burns, beats, and crushes his body with a series of test in order to mold it into an impenetrable weapon.

The weakness is off course the balls and the back of the head. The question, in this movie, is who would win in a battle of the two styles.

It takes four martial artists to disorient the Iron Armor technique. The Eagle Claw technique comes into play in two ways. It penetrates the back of the skull of the Iron Armor warrior. This takes away The Iron Armor warrior’s focus. It ends as the Eagle Claw crushes the nuts of the Iron Armor technique.

The Iron Armor warrior had a way to defend against the Eagle Claw initially. He would take his powerful thighs and simply vice grip The Eagle Claw. It worked once. This did not work a second time. The final fight in the movie is good for so many reasons.

  1. Game of Death

brucekareem by samigur presented by imgur and Concord Productions (original 1972 footage) (uncredited)
Columbia Pictures Corporation
Golden Harvest Company

I never did like how this movie came together. There is actually an original cut of the movie. Game of Death’s known release was this Bruce Lee movie with a set of strange shots of Bruce Lee in it. T

here were also fake Bruce Lee scenes that just did not work. The end of Game of Death is awesome.

Bruce Lee would scale the levels of this building and take on deadly martial artists. At the end, he takes on Lou Alcindor, or Kareem Abdul Jabar, as this blind martial artist, Hakim.

The Breakdown 5

Hakim is over seven feet, fast, fierce, and knows how to handle himself. It is a great scene.Kareem Abdul Jabar is a seven foot version of Bruce Lee. He keeps Bruce Lee at bay with his length and quickness.

He only attacked Bruce Lee when he got close. He counterattacks as enemies approach him. He offers Bruce Lee open palms and warns him to stay away. He even stamps Bruce Lee’s chest with his massive foot and a defensive kick. In the end, Bruce Lee has to take risks, and gets hit with a series of kicks and punches, in order to get close and attack Hakim.

Kareem Abdul Jabar grapples with Lee. Lee bites him. Bruce Lee uses this effort to pound Hakim to death, up close and personal.  Kareem Abdul Jabar was a student of Bruce Lee and both used the Jeet Kune Do technique in this scene.

  1. Black Belt Jones

jimgloria by Sequoia Productions (II)
Sequoin Films and presented by Our Weekly

I can always respect what Jim Kelly represented in the 1970s. I just never wanted to invest in the environments in this movie. It was not a movie set made to look like ancient China or an older city. It was closer to modern time in look and in the issues covered.

However, I like the film and definitely the fight scenes. The train scene is funny. The midnight dojo scene is cool, but is just crazy.

Sydney’s scene is awesome. She is a female protagonist in the movie. Her scene is the opposite of a scene in Enter the Dragon.

The Breakdown 6

There is a part in that movie where Bruce Lee’s sister, in the film, gets overwhelmed by a group of male enemies. Sydney, played by Gloria Hendry, beats her odds, period, in her search for the character Pinky.

She enters a dangerous place, known as Pinky’s Hip Pocket. She ask for Pinky. She is shrugged off, rudely. Sydney kicks off her shoes. She unbuttons her dress just a little. She needs kicking room. Sydney throws a series of only kicks. She uses the style Jim Kelly did, Shorin-Ryu Karate. She keeps her enemies at bay. Sydney only uses punches, or chops, if enemies get to close. She slams one enemy’s head against a table to cause major damage. It is something to watch as the thugs just fall.

  1. Billy Jack

BillyJack by BillyJackRights Eaves Movie Ranch
National Student Film Corporation
Warner Bros.

The only thing about Billy Jack is the fight scenes. It is wild movie. It looks like a 1970s martial arts film in Arizona. Tom Laughlin, as Billy Jack, a Green Beret and Hapkido expert helps to protect these wild horses from slaughter and a “freedom school” from some wealthy villains.

The Breakdown 7

There is a scene where he takes on Stewart Posner, the major enemy, and his group of hired thugs. These thugs are just thugs. They do not have martial arts skills.

Billy Jacks offers them a series of chops, kicks, throws, and jump kicks. The unskilled thugs get beaten, but use their numbers to overwhelm Billy Jack.

He gets his butt kicked. Billy Jack fights them in a park. He uses the space of the park to avoid, and attack, his enemies. The thugs close in on Billy Jack and wait until he is exhausted. They capture him and beat him into submission.

  1. The Big Boss

BBoss by Golden Harvest Company and presented by Furious Cinema

The idea that Bruce Lee could be non-violent is hilarious. His character Cheng swore an oath of non-violence, but must break it when his associates fight back against unfair treatment at work and the mysterious disappearance of other fellow employees.

The Breakdown 8

A scuffle breaks out between workers and employers in the movie. The employers use tools in this ice warehouse to attack the outraged employees. This turns into bedlam. The employees want their just due, but the employers give them blood.

A punch hits Cheng, Bruce Lee’s character. He gets hit once more. This sends him into action. Bruce Lee uses his Jeet Kune Do style along with the weapons available in the warehouse. He beats each seething employer with a vicious kick, or punch.

He kills a few with knives. The enemies surround Cheng, but he beats them back with endless stamina, speed, and uses the size of the warehouse to throw his enemies around. In the end, he faces an arrest for the various murders he committed with his deadly attacks. The Big Boss is good, but is rough.

  1. The Way of the Dragon

brucechuck by Golden Harvest Films
Concord Productions
Golden Harvest Company presented by providr

I want to give Bruce Lee the most coverage on this list. He just made good, modern, movies for the time. The Way of the Dragon was crazy. Chuck Norris is in it. Bruce Lee battles a sniper. He visits another country, and his relatives, but must defend them from an evil group of gangsters.

The gangsters hire Chuck Norris. He comes to Italy. Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris prepare and fight one another. The end of this movie is what you want. Tang Soo Do, Chuck Norris’ style, has a close connection to Korea’s Taekwondo.

It keep enemies at bay with direct kicks and offers deadly punches to enemies that get too close. Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do feels like Chinese boxing, Americanized, with kicks. It relies on speed and accuracy to move in, out, and around enemies to unbalance them and penetrate any defense. It keeps the basic idea of using kicks to keep enemies at bay.

The Breakdown 9

However, speedy, dangerous, punches unbalance enemies as well. Timed right, and used in the proper sequence with kicks, Jeet Kune Do is unstoppable. Chuck Norris used kicks to knock Bruce Lee back in their first exchange, in the final fight scene. Bruce Lee returned the favor with his own set of kicks.

He followed that with a set of kicks and finally a set of massive punches to down Norris. The two got close. Chuck Norris would grapple Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee rips out Chuck Norris’ chest hair. Bruce takes advantage. He kicks Chuck Norris’ legs and arms, to incapacitate him. In the end, Norris charges Lee and gets his neck broken in the process. This is a very good fight.

  1. Five Deadly Venoms

fivev by Shaw Brothers and presented by Furious Cinema

This is the movie. A final student, of a dying master, must find the five other deadly students of the master. He has the chore of defeating the previous students that are evil. This movie is just tight.

The Toad style, as Liang Shen played by Meng Lo, was just cool. He was invincible. His technique relies on a series of wayward kicks and punches. He can do this because his body is impenetrable.

The Breakdown 10

The master of the Snake style attacks with a slippery system of kicks and punches that strike, and bite, enemies. This style against the Toad style is worthless, by itself. The Toad style is almost unstoppable as his skin, pressure points, and outer body are indestructible.

However, the master of the Scorpion style hid among the crowd that watched the fight between the Snake and Toad styles. The Scorpion style exposed the weakness of the Toad style. He threw darts into Liang Shen’s ears. The Snake style attacked the same points on Liang Shen’s body.

This disoriented the Toad style. He could not focus on his impenetrable technique. This led to the downfall of the Toad style. Five Deadly Venoms is a great movie.

Masturbate Your Way to Better Health

Although sex is generally better in two-player mode, there is nothing wrong with indulging in regular self-loving either. In fact, frequent masturbation can hold great benefits for the average American male. Apart from many health benefits, having regular orgasms can also help boost job satisfaction and productivity at work according to a study published in the Journal of Management. If you are concerned that you already masturbate too much, don’t worry – as long as your masturbation does not lead to complete social isolation and absenteeism from work you are good to go. You might even want to up your game somewhat after learning more about the multitude of benefits it can have.

Masturbation improves both your mood and your sex life

When you have an orgasm your body is flooded with oxytocin and endorphins which is why you feel so good shortly after shooting your load.  If you find yourself prone to bouts of anxiety and depression perhaps it is time you put down the TV remote or gaming console and masturbate yourself to a really good mood. While the act will make you a happier man, it also has the ability to improve your sex life by increasing your stamina allowing you to last longer than the customary 5 minutes. By masturbating regularly you can, in fact, train yourself to last longer during sex by counting how many strokes it takes you to orgasm and aiming to double it next time.

It will help you sleep better

The endorphins released during sex are known to help you relax and get a night of sound sleep. The same applies to masturbation which is why you might want to consider it before you go to bed at night.  Whether you prefer the expertise of your own hand or like to take your masturbation to the next level with toys such as fleshlights, sex dolls, and penis strokers, a 10-minute session after supper could relax you more than a couple of beers can any day.  Masturbation can even help cure long-term insomnia if engaged in on a regular basis.

It can help reduce the risk of heart disease

By lowering blood pressure and enhancing relaxation, masturbation is seen as an effective method to help combat heart disease in men. It’s actually considered to be a light exercise and although you are not bound to burn many calories, you will get your blood pumping enough for it to be of benefit to your health. Instead of walking for half an hour a day, you can masturbate for the same amount of time with similar wellness benefits.  Apart from contributing towards your heart health regular self-love sessions can also reduce your risk of Type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

Now that you know masturbating can actually benefit your health and well-being , don’t hesitate to buy that extra tube of lube, download a good movie or two and give yourself some loving a couple of times a week which is bound to at least have you sleeping better and smiling more.

UFC 228: Woodley vs Till Main Card Preview with Predictions

0

Main Event: Tyron Woodley vs Darren Till (UFC Welterweight Championship)

Betting Odds: Woodley -106 or 10/11, Till -102 or 10/11

The most underrated UFC champion right now without question is Tyron Woodley, he ripped the belt from the clutches of popular champion Robbie Lawler within a couple minutes of the opening round at UFC 201.

Woodley was out of action for 18 months before dethroning Lawler who hadn’t lost in such emphatic fashion as a Welterweight since being stopped by Nick Diaz all the way back in 2004.

The reason Woodley isn’t being celebrated as perhaps he should be is the three title defences he’s made (1 draw) have been mostly uneventful, the best out the three was the first fight against Stephen Thompson which was soured by the decision, the rematch never heated up which is regrettably the only way to fight Stephen Thompson without in Tyron Woodley’s own words getting “kicked upside the head”.

After removing Stephen Thompson from the equation the next challenger was Demian Maia who attempted 21 takedowns during his fight with Woodley securing none. You can imagine if you haven’t seen that fight how frustrating it must have been to watch a guy attempt an average of 4 takedowns per round without any success, Woodley won the fight almost exclusively on takedown defence.

During those anti-climactic title defences, there were still glimpses of the danger an explosive athlete like Woodley possesses.

Even though striking isn’t Woodley’s bread & butter he’s proved that he can be a handful for anyone standing up, should the fight hit the mat that’s where Woodley has the best chance of success.

Darren Till is the beneficiary of unusual circumstances & somewhat unjustly finds himself in a title fight, Colby Covington earned an Interim Welterweight Title just two months ago, it makes more sense to give him the required time to recover so he could fight Woodley but the UFC was eager for a Welterweight Title fight so here we are.

That being said it’s not as if Till lacks the ability to become champion, it’s more a case of this fight could be premature much like Henry Cejudo’s first crack at the Flyweight Title.

Till is from England where the fans get behind their fighters with unrivalled support, the UFC I’m sure would like to host another PPV event on British soil sometime in the near future, a champion from England would increase the likelihood of that happening.

How can Till win this fight? well, he’s a huge Welterweight, probably the biggest Welterweight on the roster. His strength is his striking distance & sound execution of striking technique.

His one-sided rout of Cerrone proved he’s a legitimate talent, the fight with Wonderboy (regardless of how you scored it) showed he can hang with the best in the world.

The biggest concern for me is Till hasn’t fought many of the top ten especially the guys with wrestling bases like Woodley, it’s a big ask to solve that puzzle for the first time at the highest level in a five-round fight with Tyron Woodley.

A win makes Till an instant national hero, a loss sends him back towards the fighters who pose a similar threat to Woodley which could be the beginning of a nightmare for Till, Woodley has an opponent that will finally give him the type of fight that fans will like, Darren Till will attack aggressively it’s up to Woodley to make the most of it.

Co-Main Event: Nicco Montano vs Valentina Shevchenko (UFC Womens Flyweight Title)

Betting Odds: Montano +917 or 8/1, Shevchenko -1075 or 1/14

Dominant champions are somewhat of a theme in Women’s MMA, Cris Cyborg, Ronda Rousey, Amanda Nunes, & of course the recently defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The Flyweight division has only ever had one champ the current title holder Nicco Montano who won The Ultimate Fighter reality show which also crowned her the inaugural Women’s Flyweight Champion.

The division was highly competitive on paper prior to Valentina Shevchenko moving down, you had four or five women who could potentially all beat each other, Shevchenko has changed all that by deciding to campaign as a Flyweight.

Shevchenko’s only losses in the UFC have come against Amanda Nunes, in both fights, Shevchenko was outpointed by the narrowest of margins against a woman who’s been almost unstoppable in recent years. Outside of those losses Shevchenko has looked good, besting Holly Holm over 5 rounds in a fight which was almost exclusively a kickboxing match.

Submitting Juliana Pena to win a performance of the night bonus.

Earlier this year, Valentina made her Flyweight debut submitting Priscila Cachoeira via rear naked choke, she looked healthy at the weight, in fact, she’s physically more suited to Flyweight than she was at Bantamweight so in many ways the losses to Nunes weren’t all that detrimental.

The bad news here is the division that was originally so open is now looking like it will be just another one with a dominant champion, Valentina is a big favourite in this fight & rightly so, she has a wealth of experience along with many strengths & no glaring weaknesses now size isn’t a factor. It’s very difficult to see Montano troubling Shevchenko at all. Still, crazier thing’s have happened in the fight game.

Special Mention

Zabit Magomedsharipov

Originally scheduled to face Yair Rodriguez at this event but due to an injury, Brandon Davis will now take his place, the fight with Rodriguez was more exciting simply because both men have flamboyant striking styles which were a recipe for something special. Let’s hope the UFC reschedule that for sometime later this year.

Brandon Davis is no Yair Rodriguez by any stretch of the imagination he’s 2-2 with the UFC (if you include his win in Dana White’s Contender Series) hasn’t shown anything that would make me believe he can cause Zabit any issues so this is nothing but a chance to make a name for himself.

Zabit Magomedsharipov who still wanted to compete on this card gets another chance to entertain the crowd whilst continuing his momentum of impressive wins, last time out against Kyle Bochniak he put on a clinic.

Every so often a talent comes along who has a unique aura or ability, Zabit looks to be a gifted martial artist who could become one of the best in the world, possibly something even greater.

(Predictions)

Tyron Woodley vs Darren Till (Woodley KO/TKO)

Nicco Montano vs Valentina Shevchenko (Shevchenko TKO)

Zabit Magomedsharipov vs Brandon Davis (Zabit Submission)

Jessica Andrade vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz (Andrade Decision)

Abdul Razak Alhassan vs Niko Price (Alhassan KO/TKO)

Amanda Taylor shines like a supernova

Do blondes really have more fun?  That is a hard question to answer definitively, but if you gaze upon the photos of Amanda Taylor, it does seem as though she enjoys life.  Taylor’s modeling career oft requires that she wears no more than a smile, some string, and a copious application of body oil.   Her toned and trimmed physique pops with curves and locks of gold.

The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk Nintendo Switch Review

Main Title by Headup Games and and Studio Fizbin

Different Vintage

Headup Games and Studio Fizbin gave Nintendo Switch owners The Inner World and The Inner World: The Last

Screenshot 1 by Headup Games and Studio Fizbin

Wind Monk on the same day. The first game offers players great visuals, sound, and puzzles that require some creative thought. The first effort allows players to meander in the world of Asposia. You simply follow Robert’s quest to find out why Asposia’s wind fountains went away.

You discover it is due to one man’s quest for power. The first adventure is a systematic process. The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk is the intermediate, or harder, version of the first title. You know the controls. You understand the world. The game turns up the challenge for you. There is no hand holding.

Change in the Current

Screenshot 2 by Headup Games and Studio Fizbin

Your return to Asposia is livelier this time around. You, again, play Robert. Three years after the first game, you discover Robert was petrified. At the end of The Inner World, Robert releases the people of Asposia who had been petrified. In the first game, most of the people in Asposia had been petrified. Later in this game, Robert discovers he belongs to a family of similar flute people.

These individuals actually control Asposia. Robert is destined to lead Asposia. In his absence, however, a man, and trader, Emil, has made Robert’s flute nose people public enemy number one to Asposias’ residents. As the title indicates, Robert, with the help of his pigeon friend, Peck and Laura, a love interest, must find the last wind monk in order to save his people and unify Asposia. He must also follow an adventurous quest to define his destiny.

The Controls

Screenshot 3 by Headup Games and Studio Fizbin

The Inner World:  The Last Wind Monk’s controls are similar to the first game. The left analog stick moves Robert throughout Asposia. The L and R shoulder pads allow Robert to pick out specific items on screen, hotspots, and interact with them.

The LR shoulder button allows players to get help with puzzles on screen. The ZR shoulder button accesses Robert’s flute songs. The plus button allows players to access the main menu on screen. The X button allows players to access Robert’s inventory.

The A and B buttons allow players to confirm, or cancel actions on screen. The Y button accesses the hotspots as well. This time around, the game allows you to operate as Robert, and his pigeon friend, Peck, from the start. You have to switch between Peck and Robert, and later Laura, to solve the puzzles in front of you. This game requires that you move between the different characters to solve puzzles rather than just using only Robert.

Deeper and deeper

Screenshot 4 by Headup Games and Studio Fizbin

This game is a direct sequel to the previous title. The game continues to use three-dimensional space, and models, with beautiful two-dimensional art. The first game’s focus was on Robert and his quest to solve the mystery of the wind fountains. The first game is more personal. This game manages to expand Asposia and brings more life to the civilization. There are farmlands, industrial landscapes, more citizens, and corners to the puzzle spaces available in Asposia. The classical scores are as beautiful as ever.

The first game requires players to mimic notes on the flute and produce music in order for Robert to succeed in his quest. This game offers ready, and available, songs, for Robert to produce with a push of a button. However, The Inner World: The Last Wind still offers complex, musical, puzzles for players to solve.

…And Deeper

The real difference between The Inner World, and this sequel, is Robert’s use of his friends Peck, the pigeon, and Laura, the thief and love interest. The middle portion of the game requires a team work in order to solve the breadth of the puzzles put in front of you. Laura, Robert, and Peck, for example, have to operate in different portions of a cable car station. They each interact with their parts of the station.

It is seamless and, as long as you follow the lore of the game, offers players some solid puzzles. The nature of their teamwork, however, seamless can be a series of lengthy interactions. This is something I love, and dislike about this continuation of Robert’s journey. Robert needs help on this quest. The way these three characters interact, with the backtracking aspects of this title, makes this quest feel unnecessarily long.

For example, in the cable car station, Robert, Laura, and Peck all must complete different puzzles, in various parts of the station. The problem is, more than once, you can complete a task for Robert, but it might be necessary for Laura, or Peck to finish the same puzzle. If this happens once, that is fine. This pops-up a number of times throughout the game. A puzzle, which might be fun, becomes a grind. he Inner World: The Last Wind looks great in portable modes and is even stronger in television mode.

Conclusion

Headup Games and Studio Fizbin’s The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk is my version of Sega, and Monolith Production’s, Condemned 2: Blood Shot. The first game by these companies, Condemned: Criminal Origins, was a precise, horror, experience I would play on a friend’s console. It was a personal game. The game was sharp for its time, but also had character. The first game operates in the dark, but asks you to be constantly aware. You never knew what would come after you from out of the shadows. You had to be ready. Condemned 2: Blood Shot is a dark action game. It is not the same as the first game. Enemies constantly attack.

I believe there is even a first-person fight mode in the game. It is enjoyable, but is just a very different experience. The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk is not so different from the first game. It is just lengthier in a way. In my personal experience, this was not a good thing. It feels like the game could be shorter in certain areas. There is a puzzle with the character Laura in jail. It is a good addition, but at times, and after other longer puzzles, it lengthens the Asposia experience, but not in the best way. There is the first puzzle in this game. It is well done. However, it is unnecessarily lengthy, in my opinion. I do believe The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk is a necessary purchase with its predecessor. It is something to experience. Just prepare for a more bulky experience.

Star Traders: Frontiers Review

Written by Jonathan Lee, August 20, 2018, 4:00pm. Tweet to: @Writerscube

Welcome to an Evolving Frontier

Brought to you by the developers at Trese Brothers Games (and a big thanks to them for providing me a copy of this game!), Star Traders: Frontiers is a deep sandbox-RPG that puts you into the shoes of a Star Trader, a free-exploring captain who must establish contacts, lines of revenue through trade and missions, fend off pirates, and also manage his/her crew. But from the get-go, you’re shown that the galaxy has its own matters to deal with. There are a number of factions about that are vying for influence over their sectors and beyond, and you can choose to be a part of it… or simply ignore it and do your own thing, surfing the waves of galactic events as you best can. And that’s beautiful! If I had to give an approximation as to how this game feels: it’s like if FreelancerFTL: Faster Than Light, and Oregon Trail had a kickass interstellar baby already kitted out in Templar power armor.

What’s In the Game?

Star Traders: Frontiers, Diplomacy
The galaxy evolves around you, whether you want to participate in the story or not…

In Star Traders: Frontiers, there are several challenges that the player must take on in order to become a successful Star Trader and ship captain. The first thing you discover in this game is communication and diplomacy. You will have conversations with a lot of characters. Whether it’s a humble retired trader, or a faction leader, you’ll have to talk with these characters to get quests, increase trade access, and participate in the evolving story line if you wish to take part. (In my playthrough, I chose to take part in the main story line.)

But once you’ve taken care of the initial conversations of the game, you’re free to do whatever you want! Want to help a faction prince with clearing his daughter’s name? Go for it! Want to just begin your quest to become the richest trader in the galaxy? Nothing’s stopping you. Or how about being a pirate and just blowing up any and everything you see? Well, that’s not recommended, but you can technically do it!

Ships Galore!

Star Traders: Frontiers, Ship Combat
Easily my favorite part of the game!

With over 20 ships to buy, tons of weapons and modifications to customize your ship, and multiple factions to trade with, there’s lots to keep your experience as a ship captain fresh. This is good because with so many systems and planets to explore, you’ll eventually get tired of running the same interstellar tugboat that you start with. I would highly recommend getting familiar with the way trade works in this game as that will assist you in building your wealth fast enough to get a new ship sooner than later.

Speaking of ships, ship-to-ship combat is not without depth and strategy. Different weapons are effective at different ranges. In turn, this encourages ship battles to be active because the computer will also be trying to make a move. My favorite part was when ships got into close-range because that means my favorite part of combat: Ship boarding! Remember how you have to manage your crew? The RPG elements continue as you level up your crew and officers as individual characters. With new levels comes new skills, and some of those skills can really help you out in combat. (Believe me, you don’t want to take on Xenos aliens on their own ship without the right skills… I learned that the very hard way.)

Your Ship, Your Crew

More on that crew leveling, a lot of those skills also assist in keeping your ship together as you travel the stars. Your ship travels in measurements of AU (astronomical units, the distance between Earth and the Sun). In an almost-Oregon-Trail fashion, as your ship travels every AU, there’s a chance for an event to happen. Most of those random events involve the ship having some sort of issue or run-in. The competency and skills of your crew will determine whether your ship experiences a minor breakdown, or maybe someone dies of a space disease (so far no space dysentery, but who knows!)

Star Traders: Frontiers, Trese Brothers, Ship Combat, Xenos
Pirates are tough, military space forces tougher, but good luck if you run into a Xenos ship and you have to take on its crew…

Final Thoughts

There’s so much depth in this game and its various stages of play, I don’t feel like I’ve experienced it all. As the galaxy’s story evolves, I keep finding surprises. One moment, I thought I had found a way to balance my ship’s costs vs revenue (via trade and missions) and for a time it was good. But BAM! Political upheaval takes over the galaxy as a character I was helping earlier was now trying to establish a new world order. Every choice you make adds a new layer to the story and how it moves forward.

This game began from humble beginnings as an Early Access title that didn’t have much at the start, but Trese Brothers has done some amazing work in listening to community feedback and building Star Traders: Frontiers up to what it’s become. It’s one of the few shining examples of what happens when a studio listens to its gamers and takes their feedback to heart while also pursuing their vision. As Cory Trese, co-founder of Trese Brothers Games, said:

“We set out to demonstrate exactly how Early Access should be done. We did it the Trese Brothers way – hammering out 87 updates, including huge new features and swathes of content, all without ever invalidating a saved game or pausing more than a few days between big updates. Throughout all this, we’ve also responded to every player thread on Steam. Yes, that might mean we’re crazy – but interacting with our community is extremely important to us.”

It’s always heartening to see a developer that believes so strongly in community engagement, and the quality of Star Traders: Frontiers is a testament to the developer’s desire to listen to constructive feedback and how community engagement is becoming more and more of a driving force in games development.

Late Shift Nintendo Switch Review

The End of Shift

Screenshot 4 by Tobias Weber,Wales Interactive, Wales Interactive, Ltd. and CtrlMovie

The end of summer offers a change in video game tastes. August and September releases indicate a change in expectations, and habits. Who does not look forward to a season of Madden football?

It can work in cooperation with their favorite team’s season. Dark Souls Remastered, FIFA 19, Super Mario Party of other titles wet your pallet. You might like role-playing games, that special platform title, or something different for the colder months.

Currently, Late Shift, made with CtrlMovie’s software, Wales Interactive, Wales Interactive, Ltd., and created by Tobias Weber, is a game-like experience that makes me indecisive. It has a successful record of accomplishments. However, should it find a place on the Nintendo Switch?

Clock In

Screenshot 1 by Tobias Weber,Wales Interactive, Wales Interactive, Ltd. and CtrlMovie

Late Shift is a game experience that uses the technology of a company CtrlMovie. They are a Swiss-based start-up company that creates interactive movies on its own and offers its technology and services to third party filmmakers and content producers.

Late Shift, based on a screenplay by first time director Tobias Weber, works in conjunctions with Michael R. Johnson, author of Guy Ritchie’s 2009 movie, ‘Sherlock Holmes’, to establish a unique interactive, cinematic, world.

Matt, a smart student, has to prove his innocence after being forced into the robbery of a famous London auction house. You decide to act “when everything is turning against him”. You make decisions for the interactive thriller’s hero while the movie runs,” seamlessly”.

Why This?

Screenshot 2 by Tobias Weber,Wales Interactive, Wales Interactive, Ltd. and CtrlMovie

In the past, Digital Picture’s Night Trap, Sewer Shark, or Sierra Entertainment’s Phantasmagoria were not in my wheelhouse. This content, while it had glimpses of being a video game, was not a game in my eyes.

The idea of Night Trap, which dealt with a home invasion lead by vampires, had possibilities. It just never stuck with me because of all of the video content in the title. I am at an age now where this kind of game has become more acceptable.

Late Shift has been part of a number of film festivals, and events in movie theaters, and is a perfect fit for the smartphone industry. Why not Nintendo Switch? This is a slick, well made, movie, at first. Now imagine if you can implement choices to advance, or deter, your character in the game. For example, you have to catch a train in the game. Another passenger wants to find a specific train platform to catch a different train.

You have the option to help the man, or ignore him, on your way to your train. In either case, you might, or might not catch the train on time. This is not a big deal, right? However, as you continue in the game the first choice influences the rest of the game, sometimes dramatically.

For example, if you ignore the man, at the start of the game, some important character may, or may not, die in the game. This can either help you finish the game in a positive way, or negative way. On a television, this video game explodes. The portability of the Nintendo Switch shines with more crisp visuals, if that is possible. Use some good headphones.

Conclusion

The need for Late Shift came a little bit after failing to complete certain levels in Dodge Roll, and Devolver Digital’s, Enter the Gungeon and breaking even in some clashes in Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. Late Shift is nowhere close to Don Bluth’s Dragon’s Lair, or Space Ace. It does require quick, tactful, decisions. The movie itself plays well. It looks good and carries a decent production cost. The action is very light and is just the escape you might need before the bigger hitters come in late August, and September.

Your dogs Jax and Opie are on your IG a lot. Any other pets that are just camera shy?

I also have a cat, named Kitt, that doesn’t get as much publicity as Jax and Opie do. The dogs are just so sweet and funny. Plus, they’re both always on my heels, so it’s easier to post pictures of them. Kitt keeps to himself, unless he’s hungry; then he’s front and center.

Your website has got some fantastic stuff. What made you want to launch your own site?

I have some really amazing loyal fans that wanted the opportunity to get more of me. I knew that launching my own site was a way to really do the things (and people) that I’m into and give everyone what they wanted.

Are there certain genres of porn you like to do the most?

It really depends on the day! Sometimes I love doing some acting and playing a fun role and sometimes I just want to get down and dirty in a gonzo scene.

Tube sites are a hot-button issue for the porn industry. Thoughts?

Free tube sites are going to be the death of the industry! There are options on some sites to still pay for your porn and support what’s being created, but the free ones are an issue. If people are not paying for the goods they are consuming, it becomes increasingly more difficult to make more!

There’s a rise in “pro-amateurs” through these sites is that a positive in your mind?

Absolutely! There are fans that enjoy watching a scene that is well-lit, professionally produced and edited. There’s also viewers that want to see a more real, raw product. Being able to buy content from a “pro-amateur” site gives people a way to create and cater to a larger fanbase.

Do you have a routine for before you do shoots?

Coffee is really my only routine. No one would want to be around me on set otherwise.

What would you be doing now if you weren’t doing porn?

If I wasn’t doing porn, I would probably still be a Certified Pharmacy Technician. I really enjoyed the years I spent doing that.

What was the weirdest scene you ever had to do?

I shot a scene once in which I was blueberry yogurt. A girl would eat blueberry yogurt and start to fantasize about it and then I would appear and pleasure her.

If you could direct any scene, with any actor, with no strings attached, what would it be?

I would direct a scene between myself, Ryan Mclane, and Johnny Castle. No frills, no dialogue, just me and my two favorite guys.

VR porn is becoming extremely popular, have you worked with it, and what were your thoughts? If not, would you want to?

I have done a handful of VR scenes and it’s very different. There is a lot less intimacy than there is in a regular scene. The male performer has to stay pretty stationary and is behind the camera. The kissing, touching, and eye contact are some of my favorite parts of shooting, but there is no arguing that the final result of a VR scene is something very cool to see and create.

What is it like on the set before the shoot happens?

Being on set is an absolute blast! I always say that this industry is a happy, dysfunctional little family. It’s fun to hang out with each other, catch up, joke around and laugh. The longer I’ve been in the industry, the more I’ve come to appreciate all aspects of it; including just hanging out on set before and after a shoot.

Have you ever been noticed in public?

I have a handful of times, but 99% of the time, people don’t say anything to me. More often than not, I’ll get a comment on social media later letting me know that I was spotted.

What was the hottest shot you ever had?

I recently did a scene for Tonight’s Girlfriend with Ryan Mclane. We have great chemistry and the director let us cut loose and just have fun. We got pretty rough and both kept waiting for the director to reel us back a little. It will always go down as one of my hottest scenes ever.

Who is the funniest person you’ve worked with? Smartest? Nicest?

Every time I work with Ryan Mclane (can you tell I like him) we laugh hysterically. Jessa Rhodes is extremely intelligent with a good head on her shoulders, and Cherie Deville is an absolute sweetheart. But I can honestly say that people in porn are the kindest, most intelligent people I’ve ever met.

Any special talents the people should know about?

I really don’t have any special talents!

If you could bang any famous person from the past, who would it be?

I would be a young Christopher Reeves. Is there anyone hotter than Superman?

How’s it feel being so fucking hot?

You’d have to ask someone else! Thank you, but I truly don’t think I’m anything particularly special to look at!

Bullshit, but ya gotta love humility!

The Meg review

THE MEG REVIEW

A big shark comes back from extinction to eat Chinese people.

The Meg is a PG-13 romp through the genre of killer sharks.  It has everything a modern summer blockbuster needs to be successful.  Including a predictable script packed with thrills, suspense, minimal blood and perfectly generic cast.  Heavily marketed to the Chinese cinema crowds, the setting is in China and features Chinese actors, select lines of dialogue in Chinese, and obligatory Chinese family values peppered throughout the near 2 hour run time.

The Meg circles underneath a helicopter.
The Meg circles underneath a helicopter.

Casting so PC it could be a human resources training video.

Thought you could just watch a movie about a killer mega-sized shark without some “diversity”?  You’re wrong.  The Meg has the vanilla casting that movie goers have come to accept over the past decade.  Let’s see…. Funny black guy? Check.  Adorable asian girl?  Check.  Sexually ambiguous angry lesbian rebel?  Check.  Evil rich white male?  Check.  Asian Bridezilla? Check.  I’m sure we missed some in here, but you get the point.  We, the ticket buying patron, get it too.  Hollywood has to make sure every single ethnic group is represented in their films or risk the wrath of “outrage” on social media.  The Meg is no different.  Expect cookie cutter acting from cardboard characters, who say, think, and feel exactly as their generalized stereotype should.

A long run time sinks The Meg in middle

The Meg has a runtime of 1 hour and 52mins.  The opening of the movie and beginning of the second act were actually pretty fun.  There was genuine suspense and you get a fair introduction into the characters.  However after about 90 minutes, I started looking at my watch in the movie theater.  The PG-13 rating could have had something to do with this.  The Meg has some scary moments, but even the shark attacks are all almost bloodless, and the remainder of the movie really keeps it in the “family friendly” realm.  The is almost no bad language and even the scenes with sexy people at the beach come across nearly sterile.  As the cast of The Meg struggles as how to cope with the homicidal fish, it starts to drag on, and on, and on… Opting to keep one to many plot lines juggled at once, the movie could have cut down it’s running time and kept the action and thrills coming at a faster pace.

The Meg is fun to watch

Despite a few of it’s flaws, The Meg is decent movie.  You get exactly what you pay for, which is a generic cast coping with the after effects of opening Pandora’s Box.  If you love the genre of underwater beasts that was popular in the 70’s-80’s, and can suspend the laws of physics that apparently don’t apply to the scuba scenes, you’ll enjoy The Meg.  You might not love it, but you can have a fun time eating some overpriced popcorn with too much butter with your BAE.
