The road to WrestleMania officially begins with the Royal Rumble!

0

Let’s get ready to rumble!

Do you enjoy road trips? Most do. I mean, they are a great way to see the sights, bond with friends and family and of course, decide who controls the radio. For me, it depends on where I’m going. Sometimes the journey can be far more exciting than the actual destination. Now, when I talk about road trips most people think about jumping into their car and driving for miles. However, what if I was talking about a different kind of road trip? Obviously, I’m referring to the WWE Royal Rumble.

The 30 man over-the-top-rope bout will emanate from the Minute Maid Park arena in Houston, Texas on Sunday, January, 26. With the Rumble there are often extremely high stakes the most important of those headlining the main event of WrestleMania. 30 men will enter, but only one will emerge victorious and earn the right to challenge for the chance to face the WWE Universal Champion, or the WWE Champion on the grandest stage of them all!

Who will win?

The Royal Rumble can make or break a superstars career and is the first stop on the road toWrestleMania. It’s a stepping stone that can help elevate you to main event status, or make you forever known as just another winner in the long list of winners in the events history. Entrants are based on luck of the draw. Two men will start and then other superstars will enter at different intervals. Basically elimination occurs when you are thrown over the top rope and both feet touch the floor. Surprises are of the norm and the often unpredictable nature of this event is perhaps what is so intriguing. You never really know what’s going to happen. Superstars often avoid elimination by using extremely creative methods. Enemies can become allies and friends can turn on friends, but the honest truth is there are no alliances in a contest like this. It’s every man for themselves.

I mean, after all you’re not only vying for a spot at the showcase of the immortals, WrestleMania, but a WWE title shot hangs in the balance. So, who will win the Royal Rumble? I’ve heard rumblings it could be Roman Reigns. I don’t like that choice personally. It has nothing to do with disliking Reigns, but in my opinion there are better options. Why is Reigns being pegged to win the Rumble? It’s simple, really. The WWE may be setting him on a collision course with Brock Lesnar who as of now is still WWE Champion. A match at Mania between these two would be nothing new. They’ve faced one another before and oddly enough the last time they met was in the main event of WreslteMania 31. Nothing like rehashing a main event that took place five years prior!

Spotlight on the Women’s Royal Rumble!

Image result for Women's Royal Rumble

The men won’t be the only wrestlers competing at the Rumble. We will also see the women compete in the second annual Women’s Royal Rumble as well. Much like their male counterparts, female superstars will compete under the same rules and regulations as the traditional Rumble event. After headlining the event last year it will be interesting to see what’s in store for the ladies this time out. Obviously, the stakes are the same. Whoever emerges victorious will get a chance to battle for the coveted Women’s title that is still currently held by the champion, Becky Lynch. In fact. I believe the Women’s rumble may prove to be far more unpredictable.

How can that be so? Well, that’s an excellent question and I think I can provide a good answer. As I said earlier it’s not hard to predict Roman Reigns being the last man standing for the men and challenging Lesnar for the title. On the flip side, for the ladies we really don’t know what’s in store. Anyone could truly win the match. So, who is the odds on favorite? That’s what makes it so interesting, because there is no clear odds on favorite. If I had to venture a guess I’d put money on a returning Rhonda Rowsey. Oops! Spoiled it, didn’t I? Or did I? Yes, Rowdy Rhonda is slated to make her long awaited return to the WWE. She’s been absent since losing last year at WrestleMania.

Other matches taking place

In addition to the two Rumble bouts, there will be a few other matches on the show. What will they be? I’m sure that Lesnar will defend the WWE title, but I’m not quite sure who his opponent will be. It may be Tyson Fury, or it could be his old UFC nemesis, Cain Valezquez. You can also expect to see Bray Wyatt in action I’d imagine. “The Fiend” is the hottest thing going in WWE right now and will most likely defend the title against Daniel Bryan. Both will be must see contests no doubt.

An Undertaker sighting?

Image result for The Undertaker 2020

Let the speculation begin! Could we see the Undertaker return at the Royal Rumble? I’m afraid I can’t give a concrete answer to that question. However, with it being the beginning of WrestleMania season it’s certainly possible. The Phenom hasn’t competed in eight months since Extreme Rules. I’ve heard rumors of a possible match at WrestleMania. If it’s going to happen now would be the time to start planting the proverbial seed as it were. So, does the Deadman make his presence felt? All we can do is wait and see!

The Benefits, Positive and Negative, of QubicGames Free Holiday Promotion

Q1 by QubicGames

Happy Downloads to You

Q2 by QubicGames

QubicGames software can be hard to distinguish from other software on Nintendo Switch’s eShop. Nintendo’s content shop has grown vastly since its inception. The games are all downloadable and easy to get your hands on. A combination of numerous free, inexpensive, mid-grade and AAA-titles make any purchaser’s decision a tactical one. Besides, Nintendo Switch’s eShop offers discounts on games constantly. December is no exception. No matter what, you must have a large secure digital (SD) card and the want to pay for fun and a variety of challenges.

QubicGames and Nintendo asked players to recall if they previously downloaded a QubicGames title or might consider purchasing a new one. Either way, it allows players the opportunity to download 12 free games, in combination with the 12 days that led up to Christmas. Each game from the company is a unique look at the company, from their game Robonauts to a secret game on Christmas Eve. Pssst, it is Space Pioneer. This marketing campaign is a great accomplishment but reflects negatively on the eShop at the same time.

Q -History

Since 2004, QubicGames exist as both an independent game publisher and developer. They have worked with Nintendo since 2006. Their games like Astro Bears Party, Geki Yaba Runner, and published titles like Ludio Studios’ Arkane or Draegus Games’ Tactical Mind, establish a diverse game company meant to satiate all tastes.

Briefly Qubic

Q3 by QubicGames

It makes sense to highlight the positives and negatives of each game, in short. QubicGames free promotion offers a variety of games under $10. These games take advantage of Nintendo Switch in docked or portable modes. Multiplayer is available on most of the games, and some have online features.

December 10th – 15th: Robonauts

You play this arcade shooter over 12 planetary levels with colorful graphics and music by Simund Vikland. Players roll over, and jump, between planets. Defeat alien foes, with upgradeable weapons, and complete tasks to rid the planets of their alien threats. The game controls well and turns up the challenge in normal mode as you adapt to it. However, Robonauts offers a hard mode.

The one major negative of this game is its auto-aim. Players shoot in the direction of enemies nearest to them. In the case of two enemies, in opposite directions, the game can sacrifice the player as it targets a closer enemy. This is great for family, or casual, play, but, in my opinion, it messes up parts of this game for the competitive player.

December 16th: Geki Yaba Runner

Play as Bumb, Berzerk, and Speedster as they run, jump, glide, and rush through the lands of Gnomia. They each rush to their destiny. Characters automatically run toward the end of the level. Players must jump over obstacles or burst through them to finish each level.

This is not my kind of game. It is as if Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog were a quick time event title. Again, this game can check all the boxes for a casual player. The colors, music, and the controls of the game are great. This game gets boring over time, in my opinion.

 December 17th: Puzzle Book

This game offers players the ultimate table with 34 jigsaw puzzles. Peaceful music sets the tone for concentration and admiration. Puzzle designs are a variety of vibrant, painted, fantasy, cartoonish or dynamic, landscaped, images. Players make each puzzle as simple or complex, up to 60 pieces at most, as necessary. Compete against others, to see who finishes each puzzle first or complete a puzzle with a friend.

This game’s purpose is clear. This is the departure from the more action-heavy titles on Nintendo Switch. It soothes and works well.

December 18th: One Strike

Players take on one of seven fighters in their quest to take over Japan. The game uses pixel graphics, and a simple, one-button defend, strike and hit mechanics to decide individual matches. The game mimics the two-dimensional fighting game, with musical tracks influenced by feudal Japan. This game is a lesson in artificial intelligence done well.

Players can engage in one match, tournaments, or even local multiplayer matches. The graphics in this game can be better but this is Bushido Blade’s, from Square’s, predecessor.

December 19th: Wreckin’ Ball Adventure

Play as the K160 robot and escape from a secretive laboratory. Discover the secret of Super Com. Play over 60 levels in a 2.5-dimensional, or semi-three-dimensional, environment. Roll across various environments, use physics, and a grappling hook to navigate and escape each level. Solve puzzles, smash obstacles, and avoid dangers.

Play by yourself or with up to four players, locally. This game has so much potential. The puzzles in this game challenge you. It is a solid title.

December 20th: Koloro

Q4 by QubicGames

Play as Kora, in a simple, bright, artistic environment. Help Kora search for her sister over 300 levels. Players press one button to advance and avoid obstacles as Kora rushes through the environment. Tranquil music drives the game forward.

Play in trial, two-player cooperative mode, or single-player. Take on huge bosses in a world of dreams and nightmares. This is a different kind of game. It can be peaceful and a challenge. This is another solid title. It can be a strong family title.

December 21st : #RaceDieRun

This is an arcade racing game. Fly your ship through, up, and over treacherous obstacles, over 60 levels, and complete each track. Race, die and race more to become a better racer. Twitch quick game playtest your reflexes.

Race against your previous ghost from failed runs. Gain inspiration from quotes throughout the game, from Bruce Lee as an example, to keep racing. This is a good game. It is fun, but a ball of frustration as you advance.

December 22nd: REKT! High Octane Stunts

This three-dimensional game puts you in a series of stunt arenas and offers a variety of level challenges. Play with over fifty customizable cars. Perform flips, power slide, drift, and twist to earn points and complete level goals. Play with up to four players locally.

This game has simple graphics. The stunt aspect of this game is free and clear. REKT! High Octane Stunts is good.

December 23rd: Mana Spark

This is an addictive Zelda-esque title. This is a roguelike title where you to capture the Mana to help free humanity from enslavement. Take on skillful enemies that collaborate to defeat you. Help build guilds and upgrade your character with a variety of options. Each time through this game changes the experience. Take on a new set of challenges in every playthrough.

The game offers pixels graphics, and an endless number of story, character, and upgradable options. Mana Spark is deep.

December 24th: The Secret Game (Space Pioneer)

This is a fantastic twin-stick shooter. Play with any of three classes: light, standard, or heavy. Explore strange new worlds with your robotic sidekick. Up to four players can cooperatively play locally. Conquer various planets and complete a variety of objectives for each planet. Upgrade each character type endlessly. The game uses simple three- dimensional graphics and solid gameplay to immerse the player.

The Q-But

Q by QubicGames

Qubic Games’ method is a great way to market your game content. Their games should get decent exposure going forward. The problem is no other game company will. In the end, it is up to each developer and publisher to market their content. However, Nintendo’s eShop is home to many solid, discounted, titles Nintendo Switch owners do not know about.

In some sense, Nintendo should make a way for these games. They can offer more game demonstrations. Allow companies to distribute game trials. Setup eShop monthly, weekly, or daily developer and publisher game previews, and highlights, to boast the Nintendo Switch’s, and each games’ abilities.

For example, Nintendo Switch has the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. They could offer a Scary Nights Weekend for Nintendo Switch owners with game trials or demonstrations for only this series. The same concept could apply to any game type. This can make Nintendo Switch owners more aware of the massive digital library, and diversity.

Conclusion

This is Nintendo Switch’s most basic problem. The Nintendo Switch carries a lot of content. The quality of the content is, at times, not clear. Certain software’s visibility is even less clear. The deals on this content are even less distinguishable. Nintendo, with the help of certain companies, must organize a way to highlight and display other game companies’ content, more specifically. It does not have to be on television or online but the Nintendo Switch.

Dangers of online dating

0

Whoa, look out.  Catfish alert!

In the beginning, online dating seemed like a good idea. A guy could show his romantic interest in a girl without risking offending her. There were (usually) no hard feelings if things didn’t work out. And anyone could be upfront about what exactly they were looking for, whether serious or otherwise.

As with most things on the internet, shit has just gotten worse and worse over time. The hallowed era of Pets.com has corroded into a cesspool of misinformation, porn and Slickster Magazine. Now you might be labelled a serial abuser if you text something rude to a stranger. Your private convos or photos can be posted on social media for everyone to see. You might even get your identity stolen by some scammer.

It’s maybe not that surprising when you match with a girl who turns out way less hot than her profile pic indicates. But now you got a whole new slew of things to worry about. What if the girl you’re meeting isn’t actually a girl? It might turn out to be some organ trafficker who’s planning to chloroform your ass and steal your kidney.

If you’re still in the online dating game, it’s important to know what to look out for in order to protect yourself. These are our five tips to stay safe among the dangers of online dating.

1. Let a buddy know where you’re going and who you’re meeting

Women have been using this technique for years, and for good reason. Studies have shown that sexual predators can easily create fake profiles and lure victims into unsafe situations. This shit can happen to guys too.

You never really know who you’re going to encounter when you agree to meet someone in person, so it’s always a good idea to let one of your bros know what’s going on just in case something goes wrong.

2. Beware of catfishing

Catfishing is when someone creates a fake identity on social media and uses it to scam another person. Usually it’s for money. Good rule of thumb: if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If a girl’s profile pic makes her look like a professional supermodel, it’s probably a scam. Likewise if she claims to be a rocket scientist, a brain surgeon, or a porn star.

And this should be obvious, but if she’s asking for money, it’s a scam. Don’t give out any personal or financial info before meeting someone in person. Even then, proceed with caution.

Dangers of online dating

3. Don’t send dick pics

If you got a girlfriend you trust who asks for a picture of your dick, then hey, go ahead. But if you’re sending unsolicited pics of your dick to strangers online, you better not be surprised when that shit gets shared somewhere else on social media. You’re putting your reputation in danger, and you’re just being, well, a dick.

Even if she’s asked for a pic, and shared some of her own pics, you should always proceed with caution when a stranger is asking you for something as intimate as a picture of your junk. Unless you’ve met this person IRL and have formed some sort of relationship with them, you still don’t know who they really are, or where your dick pic will ultimately end up.

Cobra Club game

4. Be polite

One way to avoid getting your life put on social media blast is behaving like a decent person. Don’t call someone a slut, threaten anyone, or in general make a nuisance of yourself, especially when there’s a permanent digital record of your behavior. This sort of thing can come back to bite you in the ass years after the fact, so just try to act nice.

This doesn’t mean you need to be a fake nice guy, or in any way not be yourself. It just means you should treat strangers with the same sort of respect you’d expect from them.

5. As always, use protection

A lot of online dating is about hooking up. It’s okay to swipe right on absolutely anything you see, but you may not want to put your dick inside every chick you end up meeting in real life. You should know this already, but don’t sleep with anyone who seems fucked up or nuts. And if you think sex is in any way in the cards, be sure to have some condoms on you.

It’s a treacherous scene out there, but if you’re diligent, you’ll be okay. Whether you’re just looking to get your dick wet or you’re starting to think seriously about finding someone special, be aware of what you’re doing and what’s being asked of you.

Top Ten New Years Resolutions for Guys

Before you know it, the major holidays will be behind us and we’ll all be staring down the business end of a whole new year. There’s a good chance that you know someone who is chomping at the bit to get to work on their big changes for the New Year. If you’re still on the fence about what you’re going to do in the coming year, I’ve got you covered. After some serious thought, I’ve compiled my list of  the top ten New Years resolutions for guys.

Get Stronger

Top Ten New Years Resolutions for Guys
It’s always your set!

It seems like more than half of the New Year’s resolutions for guys I see online are fitness related. Most of them are focused on losing weight; everyone wants to drop some waist sizes or lose a certain number of pounds. Forget about that. If you want to make a fitness related resolution, resolve to get stronger. Add some strength training into your routine in the coming year. It doesn’t matter if you’re using your own body weight, pumping actual iron, or using a weight machine strength training is surprisingly beneficial.

Even if you’re not doing any other form of exercise, getting stronger will make you healthier. Do you want to lose weight? Strength training helps to boost your metabolism. This means that you’re burning more calories while working out and while you’re resting.  Do you find yourself becoming prematurely tired and grouchy? Strength training releases more endorphins than almost any other form of exercise. More endorphins means more energy and better moods.

Do you want to feel better about yourself in the coming year? Get stronger.

Stimulate your mind!

Your muscles aren’t the only things that need to be exercised on a regular basis. It’s important to stimulate your mind as well as your body. So set aside some time to read something every day. I don’t mean reading tweets or Facebook posts; pick up a book.  It doesn’t matter if you’re picking up a physical book or reading on a device, the important thing is to sit down, relax, and read.

Read what you like. Don’t feel like you have to read the most intellectual literature on the market. You could grab anything from  The Art of War to World War Z  as long as you’re reading, you’re on the right track.

Disconnect

Going on about the ills of over-exposure to social media is almost as tired as New Year’s resolutions about swearing off it completely. Besides, that would just turn this whole article into an angry rant about how horrible Twitter is for humanity.  Completely cutting social media out of our lives is getting harder and harder every day. For some, it’s the only way they can stay connected with family and friends. For others, social media is how they keep track of what’s going on in the world. That’s why I’m not saying you should resolve to delete all of your online accounts and live completely unplugged. For some people that just isn’t realistic.

What is realistic is taking a break every now and then. Turn your notifications off, uninstall some apps if you have to, and just step away from the Internet. You will be surprised at how nice it is to just disconnect for awhile. I’m not saying that you need to leave your phone in a drawer and go on some outback excursion. Just take some time off to exist. You’ll be surprised at how nice it is step away for awhile.

Get Some Rest

The truth is, you’re probably not getting enough rest. You’re probably staying up too late, getting up to early, and not giving your brain and body the downtime they need to function at their peak. That’s just how life goes for most guys. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to fit everything in and still have time to relax.

It’s okay to take some time off just for yourself. Even if you’re a family man, you’ve got to take care of yourself. Stay in bed ‘til noon. Take an afternoon to just lounge around and watch old movies. Despite what you may have been told, you don’t have to constantly be productive.

Learn to Make Something

For many guys it feels like the box we have to fit into is getting smaller and smaller. You need to be able to be yourself and one of the best ways to do that is to take up some kind of creative hobby.  Find something that you think is cool and learn how to make your own. You could paint, draw, write, or do chainsaw carvings. What you’re doing doesn’t matter. The important part is to allow those creative juices to flow. Making creativity part of your New Year’s resolution isn’t just about making cool stuff. It helps you build on problem solving skills and is a great way to relax after a long day.

Earn some extra cash

Every guy likes to be a good provider. It gets our competitive juices flowing and gives us a sense of accomplishment. After all, it’s our job to provide for the people around us who depend on it for survival. Thankfully there are so many ways you can earn extra money online today. One that feeds our need for competition and can make you some serious cash is online poker. This isn’t you buddies garage game on Saturday night with a $10 buy in. Online poker games can have some real cash on the line since so many players can buy in on any game. As part of your New Year’s resolution, start researching poker strategy to be successful playing online and start winning some extra cash this year.

Earn some extra cash

Top Ten New Years Resolutions for Guys

Do you find yourself becoming more of a hermit as time passes? You’re not alone in that. It’s easy for guys to fall into a rut that consists of going to work, coming home, and getting ready to go back to work. It’s important to get out and do something. This doesn’t mean you have to go jump in the middle of the club scene or hit the bar. Grab a bite at that restaurant you’ve been meaning to try. Take a weekend and go camping. Just so long as you’re taking time to get out of your routine and have a good time.

Learn to Fight

Try to be more Guy on the Left and less Guy on the Right

There’s a good chance that you’re never going to have to go to blows as an adult but it’s good to be prepared. You don’t need to be a black belt or anything. Just learn to throw a punch and how to avoid taking one. So, skip the martial arts classes and go straight to someone who can teach you some basic self defense. It’s not about being paranoid or trying to be a hardass. It’s all about confidence and being prepared for whatever life tosses at you.

Stop Caring So Much

Don’t stop caring completely. You still have to handle your business. You just have to learn to selectively give a damn. For those of us who spend any amount of time online, there’s something new to be angry about at least twice a day. The thing is, you only have so much energy and attention to give. If you waste it all on things that don’t really matter it won’t be there for the things that do. Before you invest any time or energy into something, ask yourself it if really matters.  If you want to see your stress levels plummet in the New Year, this is the resolution for you.

Buy Some Tools

Top Ten New Years Resolutions for Guys
You need tools in your life.

Having a set of tools is like knowing how to fight; if you ever need them you’ll regret not having them. You don’t need to go out and buy stock in the local hardware store or anything crazy like that. Get yourself a basic set of tools for your home and car. If you have the proper tools and an internet connection you can handle just about any home or auto repair.  You’ll save a little cash in the long run and you’ll have the confidence that comes with knowing that you don’t need to call someone to fix everything.

Be Happier

The most important thing about a New Year’s resolution, guys, is that it improves your life. It’s all about living fuller and more enjoyable life. So, whatever you resolve to do in the coming year, make sure you’re happy about doing it.

Journey for Elysium Review

Journey2 by Mantis Games and Steam

Out of Hell

Journey for Elysium, by Mantis Games, is an immersive experience on the Oculus Rift. You can settle into this adventure title in a comfortable space. A local mall, Montgomery Mall, had a virtual reality arcade. Moreover, customers could pay to use HTC’s (High Tech Computer Corporation) virtual game setups in a brick-and-mortar space in the mall. There is nothing wrong with this kind of setup for lighter experiences. However, Mantis Games offers a more focus necessary title for the virtual gamer.

Virtual Perspective

I do not own the Oculus Rift hardware. Nevertheless, I can get access to it. Lansdale Library is home to a solid, STEM Education program, the newest literature, and community programs. Lansdale Library is a hub to all things community support.

Journey3 by Mantis Games and Steam

Journey for Elysium is a game, while I did play, is more from the perspective of a librarian more familiar with the hardware and software. For example, while the librarian has tried “a couple of games” the Oculus Rift is more helpful at the library “as educational software” meant, for example, “exploring the International Space Station.”

One of the most important things a library can provide, besides access to relevant literature, a safe, focus-driven, space, and community programs, is access to technology. In addition, computers are great to use to get on the internet. However, access to technology that is more inaccessible is a premium. Lansdale Library has the Oculus Rift. This allows this hardware, and software, to be accessible to anyone who visits the library.

The Elysium Report

Journey for Elysium is a virtual reality experience, based in Roman and Greek mythology. Play as a late, nameless hero, trapped in the Underworld between life and death. Players follow the treacherous path to Elysium, and toward redemption. They must solve puzzles, with both your mind and physical skills, to escape the Underworld.

Players use virtual goggles, Oculus Rift’s hand controllers, and their physical attributes to play this title.

The Librarian’s Toll

Journey1 by Mantis Games and Steam

Journey for Elysium is about “experiencing a story instead of just reading a story.” The player” dives into “the world, and must interact with the world to progress the story.” In this case, this librarian loves to kayak. Rowing the boat, in Journey for Elysium, is “very true” to real life.

The game presents players with a “dull grey” game aesthetic, with “realistic background noises and sound effects.” Portions of the game glow with a “golden” hue to indicate clues to notice or parts of the game that require player interaction. Journey for Elysium acts more “like experiencing a story that you have to interact with” to complete.

The game has “puzzles” that are ”fun to solve” and are “pretty simplistic” as the game leads the player to the answers. In the same way, Journey for Elysium introduces new puzzles and skill tests that can get “too repetitive.” For example, most chapters require the player to constantly climb or solve mazes to get to that next chapter.

Conclusion

Oculus Rift has certain prerequisites. The player must measure the area they want to play in carefully with Oculus Rift’s two cameras. The system’s controller must be in harmony. All the hardware on this virtual reality system must be up-to-date. Soon after, a game like Journey for Elysium surrounds the player. It is good to experience a game that asks for your knowledge and physical attributes. It is a necessity, in my opinion.

This journey for Elysium is a trial for the player. My only other experience, Singularity 5, mimics a real, virtual, world experience. Both games have one thing in common. Everything is manual. For example, a basic video game can have you play through a part of it. If a player has to use the restroom, press a button and you go. With these games, you zoom in on the basic game experience. Virtual experiences duplicate real life. This game asks you to read the game description. This is the first time I would say make sure you know what you are getting in.

She Sees Red is a stylistic interactive thriller video game.  A throw back to the full motion video games of the early forays into compact disc game consoles, SSR doesn’t fully try to recreate the genre that gave us Night Trap and Sewer Shark.

The game play revolves around a murder mystery.  Using clever cut scenes and jumping around the plot, it is up to the gamer to choose options presented at critical points in order to direct the narrative.  Each decision point has two choices.  Either choice could be correct, and it appeals to the players own sensibilities.

For example, frequently in the game you control a nefarious assassin who seems to extricate himself from a Russian nightclub.  A security guard comes around a corner unexpectedly. You, the player, must decide in less than five seconds if you will attempt to hide or fight the guard.

Whichever choice you make, it will seamlessly transition into the next part of the story.  Many such choices will also unlock bonus achievements.  There are 15 unlock-able achievements in SSR.  Players, at least on the Steam platform, can also measure their success against others and see how many people have also unlocked the same achievement.

She Sees Red is hyper clean and professional FMV gaming

Full Motion Video games were heralded as the future of the gaming industry in the early 1990s.  The most infamous title being the “controversial” Night Trap.  Limited by the capabilities of the technology, early FMV games had pixelated graphics, breaks in the action due to loading screens and sub-par acting.  Still, there was a charm and excitement to these games that ignited the imagination of gamers tired with side scrolling beat’em ups.  Also, as gamers grew up, more adult themes found their way into games and FMV was at the vanguard of this.

She Sees Red sheds much of the tackiness and low-budget production values of early FMV games.  All of the video is seamless high definition, and never buffers.  The audio is clean and crisp with rich highs and deep bass.  Lighting, scene blocking, foley, and music scoring is all top-notch filmmaking.  Even the overdubs from the original Russian dialogue doesn’t really get in the way once the player becomes absorbed into the gameplay.

She Sees Red requires multiple play throughs

Gamedev Rhinotales has made a major effort to make sure She Sees Red has excellent replay value.  There are four possible endings that a player can watch if the correct sequence of choices is made. In terms of running time, each playthrough takes 30-35 minutes. Repeated playthroughs are essential in order to experience the all of game’s possible climaxes.

Because multiple play through are required it allows each player exploring different facets of his/her psyche.  For example, maybe on the initial trial of the game the gamer may choose to be conservative with the decisions.  Thus, they opt to inspect, investigate and flee from combat.  However, on the second or third play through, it may  become obvious (that with the information gained from previous experience) that the only way to progress the story will be to make more aggressive and decisive actions.

For Mature Gamers only

As previously noted, Night Trap was once considered controversial.  Although the developers of Night Trap went to great lengths in order to ensure the game was not depicting violence against women, it still became a flash point in the censorship of video games.  The henchmen in the game, used comical props, and waddled around like inept goons when the attacked their victims.  There was no blood in Night Trap.  The most provocative scene was a college co-ed in a nightgown, who gets attacked in the bathroom.

In contrast,  She Sees Red, is a truly graphic and mature game.  There is partial frontal nudity, intense action sequences and realistic violence.  Recommended for audiences 18+, it is not for the squeamish.  However, the violence and sex appeal does make for better story telling and a more engaging gaming environment.  Just to be sure, you may not want to play this NFSW game at your office desk.

The Hardest Part by Oliver James – Album Review

Oliver James – The Hardest Part

San Diego-based singer-songwriter Oliver James’ latest EP The Hardest Part is a quiet and brief psychedelic journey. The tracks on this EP take the listener into the center of the complicated emotions between falling in and out of love. James is able to take all of those feelings that we’ve all felt at one time or another and present them in a way that feels fresh but remains relatable. From the highest high to the lowest low, The Hardest Part is a psychedelic roadmap of emotion.

Uncharted Yet Familiar Territory

I will be up front and say that I don’t know much about psychedelic folk pop. I was completely unaware that it existed until I heard this EP for the first time. What I do know a little bit about is music that resonates with raw emotion. The emotional weight of the music truly transcends genres to speak in an authentic way to anyone who cares to listen. In fact, when thinking about the emotional journey of this EP I would compare it to one of my favorite doom metal albums Woods IV: The Green Album by Woods of Ypres; they are sonically nothing alike but the feeling behind them is similar.

While there is a truckload of emotion and meaning behind the lyrics in The Hardest Part, it’s also a great soundtrack to a relaxed afternoon. On this EP, Oliver James has created a soundscape that is eclectic as it is beautiful. From pedal steel guitars to dissonant reversed synths, this is as much of a sonic journey as it is an emotional one.

Stand-Out Tracks

Every track on this EP is solid. Each serves as a piece of the greater sonic tapestry while being great standalone tracks that could fit well into a mellow playlist. I had a real problem deciding which of these songs was my favorite but I was able to narrow it down to two: “Still Holding My Breath” and “A Different Kind of Pain”.

Still Holding My Breath

I think if David Bowie cut a country album, it would sound like “Still Holding My Breath”. The vocals on this EP put me in the mindset of Thin White Duke era Bowie.  Musically this track sounds like older country music with high production value and a subtle psychedelic sheen. Lyrically, this track walks the line between surreal and relatable. The metaphors and imagery conjured by the writing highlight those familiar feelings of being deeply in love and wondering if you’re the only one.

Driving home the emotional imagery in this track is an absolutely lonesome-sounding steel guitar. Honestly, that’s my favorite part of “Still Holding My Breath”; I’m a sucker for a good steel guitar and this track has that in spades. The addition of a single instrument took this track from good to great. I’ve listened to it a handful of times and that lonesome steel gives me chills every time.

A Different Kind of Pain

Sonically, this track illustrates the turmoil in the end of a relationship that gives way to the possibilities of the new future. It starts with what I thnk it a synth track played backwards. It’s discordant and goes on long enough to be slightly unnerving. Upon first listen, I was expecting to the track to be something dark and brooding. Imagine my surprise when the reversed track gave way to something bright and psychedelic. Where “Still Holding My Breath” had the spirit of barroom country, “A Different Kind of Pain” would sound at home alongside some of the brighter tracks from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The vocals, though, are still reminiscent of the Thin White Duke. I love this song.

One of my favorite parts of this track is the juxtaposition between the instrumentation and the lyrics. While this sounds like a cheery optimistic tune, the lyrics are a little darker. James sings about a world where all the good things are tainted by the pain of a lost love; at the same time a psychedelic choir sings happy sounding  la-la-las in the background. The upbeat arrangement drives home the melancholy message more effectively than any dirge ever could.

The Hardest Part, Oliver James

All in All

All in all, would I recommend checking out The Hardest Part? I absolutely would. I don’t know anything about indie psych folk pop, but I know a talented artist when I hear one. If you’re going through the complicated emotions that Oliver James is dissecting or if you just need some solid additions to your favorite mellow playlist, you need this EP in your life.

Shredder 1984, drops a brand new album, Resistance

Release date: December 13, 2019

Resistance opens with a short track entitled “This is a Call To Arms”. It features an instant melodic hook in the bass and a sample from the movie Terminator Salvation.   John Connor (Christian Bale) whispers into the microphone, “If you’re listening to this, you ARE the resistance.”

What I enjoy about Resistance is the respect it commands without begging the listener to like it.  Outwardly, Shredder 1984 has crafted an album that looks, feels and sounds like any other in the synthwave (darksynth) genre.  Yet, there is a subtlety to the album that makes it unique and at the same time very easy and satisfying to listening to “cover-to-cover”.

Most of the tracks average around three minutes in length, with the finalé, “Dissident”, going beyond six minutes.  Fans of epic, snarling, sine waves and bit crushed bass lines will fall in love with this album.   There is also plenty of skillfully programmed drum beats and synth pads.

Synthwave albums frequently employ a written statement that envelopes the music with a text-based background story. Resistance’s accompanying storyline, or lore, strikes a chord with a modern audience.    This is similar to what was once called “liner notes” in albums.) Shredder 1984’s statement on Resistance has the resonance that may be easily mistaken for a modern newspaper headline:

“We sit in 2019. We sit on our hands in a world ruled by a handful of self-proclaimed privileged individuals who look down from their perches, for we are their playthings and toying with us is so much fun.

Society is torn apart by the tensions between leaders we do see, leaders of industry and governments, and the oppressed population, of which are forced to endlessly work harder to survive. How long must we ignore the ones who truly hold all the aces?

Election Day is due, and it is being handled with all the usual manner of our maniacal tyrants, acting with impunity to serve their own interests… Their so called democracy.“

Slickster:  Thanks for the advance copy of Resistance.  It rocks!  We predict you’re going to have quite a successful album on your hands when it comes out in December.   2019 was busy year touring for you, and it looks like 2020 is going to repeat that pattern.   How have your live performances in Europe been and what is scheduled for your North American tour in 2020?

Shredder 1984: Thank you for your support! That’s true, 2019 has been a crazy year for me. I was on the road and flying to places in the USA and Europe to play shows until around July. It’s always a pleasure for me to perform; actually that’s why I keep making music, it’s like the finality of all the work and effort put into the project. I was very glad to see the scene is getting bigger in Europe and people actually attend more shows and also support the artists by buying their music and merch. So that was a great experience, and I’m looking forward to playing again in European cities.

I’ve kinda been taking a break since July as touring can be a bit exhausting and I had this album Resistance in my head for some time so I went back to my studio to produce it. Now I’m glad it’s finally out and soon to be released. Yes, I’m gonna come back in the US in 2020 but it still a bit early to announce anything.

Shredder 1984, Resistance

Slickster: While performing live, what is the composition of the crowds in attendance at the shows?  Is it mostly guys or has there been more females attending the concerts?

Shredder 1984: I’m not sure if there are more guys than girls but this synthwave/darksynth scene has a pretty mixed up crowd, there are metalheads with battle jackets who usually listen to extreme metal, geeks nostalgic of the 80s/90s, anime and manga lovers, electronic music fans, musicians… I feel like people are really curious about this genre you know.

Slickster: We have interviewed many musicians from France.  Specifically, we’ve interview French electronic musicians, and we ask them a similar question:  Why do you feel that France is frequently found at the vanguard of electronic music?

Shredder 1984: I come from a metal background so I have no idea about who is at the vanguard or not haha. I heard that the French artist Kavinsky is supposed to be one of the first acts in the scene, but ironically I discovered him through the American movie Drive. On the other side, I think Jean-Michel Jarre was definitely at the vanguard of electronic music, did you know his live in Moscow in 1997 set the world record for the biggest gig ever?

Shredder 1984 Lazer Gloves

Slickster: Your written statement for Resistance draws heavily on post-apocalyptic fiction as well as current social-political events.  Can you discuss this and what motives you to do so?

Shredder 1984:  The motivation is the fact that post-apocalyptic fiction is no longer a fiction. We don’t have yet cool stuff like flying cars or cyborgs (we’re almost there), but we have almost all the bad sides if you look carefully (meaning not through mainstream medias). 1984 is now closer than ever to our reality.

Slickster: For better or worse, France and the Yellow Vest Riots have been in the international headlines.  Have you been personally affected by these protests?

Shredder 1984:  I’m not sure I understand the meaning behind this question, as we probably didn’t see these events the same way. But I can say in France, we’re always up for putting tyrants’ heads on the guillotine haha…

A burning newsagent’s shop is seen during a demonstration by the “yellow vests” movement in Paris, France, March 16, 2019. REUTERS/Philippe Wojazer

Slickster: Synthwave (Darksynth, outrun, vaporwave… etc) has matured stylistically over the past five years.  Do you feel the genre has run its course, or it is still developing?   Where do you predict the future of the synthwave genre to go?

Shredder 1984: Well, even though there’s always a way to experiment new things, it looks like you still have to match certain codes to fit with the genre. Personally, I definitely try to make each one of my albums different from another, which I feel is a respect due to the listener.

About this new album “Resistance”, I don’t know if you agree but I do think it’s pretty unusual to try to match a dystopian future theme with the present reality of 2019, as long as matching it with past events (such as the French revolution of 1789). So we have the past, the present and the future in the same piece of art. Now, ironically, in astronomy, the word “revolution” means “a celestial object that comes full circle”. Maybe we have already reached the full circle…

Slickster: Do you have a favorite track on Resistance?  If so, can you please briefly tell us how you composed it?

Shredder 1984:  I don’t know, maybe the track Insurrection. I hope this one triggers the rebel side of the listener. For the writing process, I mainly compose on the guitar and piano before turning on the computer.

Slickster:  What advice would you give to your younger self for being creative?

Shredder 1984: Honestly I never had any troubles regarding inspiration and the creating process. Finding time on the schedule for everything that goes after the creative part is more an issue to me.

Slickster: Thanks again for sharing your awesome new music on Resistance, and letting us have a sneak peak.  Is there anything we didn’t mention or bring up during the interview that you’d like to talk about now?

Shredder 1984: I’d like to thank everyone who supports me in this project, friends and listeners. And thank my wife who managed to put all my ideas in every artwork. I hope you’ll enjoy this new album, and one last word, don’t forget, you are the Resistance!

Vambrace: Cold Soul’s a Gorgeous Take on the Rogue-like Genre

Vambrace, Cold Soul, Cover Art

Written by Jonathan Lee, December 1, 2019, 3:00 PM. Tweet to: @Writerscube

Welcome to the City of Icenaire

Developed bv Devespresso Games and published by Headup Games (a big thanks to them for giving me a chance to try this game!), Vambrace: Cold Soul is a strategic rogue-like type of game that may remind you of the likes of Darkest Dungeon, assorted JRPG games, and deep fantasy like The Elder Scrolls or Lord of the Rings. You play as Evelia Lyric, a kind but strong-willed young woman who initially sets out to learn more about her father and the strange piece of armor called the Aetherbrace. While she manages to enters the cursed city of Icenaire (thanks to the Aetherbrace!), she passes out in the cold and is scooped up by a patrol. She then awakens to find herself in a city beset from within and without. Welcome to Icenaire.

While she still is trying to learn more about her father in Icenaire, Lyric soon finds herself embroiled in the city’s other troubles. Along with the various cultures struggling to get along, there is also a group of evil, magical terrorists known as the Green Flame. It’s up to Lyric to save Icenaire and help the city overcome both its internalized fears and the external threat of the Green Flame.

Vambrace, Cold Soul, Green Flame, Lyric, Icenaire
The Green Flame and their secret dark agenda places Icenaire right in the crosshairs of disaster and possibly an apocalypse of sorts. It’s up to Lyric to fight them back and save the city!

Vambrace: Cold Soul’s Gameplay

The gameplay will easily remind players of games such as Darkest Dungeon and Star Traders: Frontier (particularly, the party-based combat). Usually, you’ll control a party of four, including Lyric. But there’s a nice bit of depth that goes into the combat mechanics. For one, you can reposition your team so that each character benefits the most in combat. Different party member roles mean different abilities and attack ranges. Personally, I enjoyed having a healer at the far back with Lyric while I had two heavy hitters in the front two positions. But I’ve seen other players with all sorts of team builds.

Devespresso Games has done an excellent job with providing a wide variety of party members to choose from. From healers to berserkers, from dragoons to fusiliers and scoundrels, there’s a huge number of combinations to try. Your strategy is further enhanced by the way you choose to develop Lyric’s abilities as she gains perk points.

Outside of combat, the game either takes the form of you exploring various parts of Icenaire along a 2D plane, or you’re traversing frozen, haunted sectors in a rogue-like setup. In-between sectors and combat, you can rest at campfires (a bit of Dark Souls?) where you can recover health and vigor. Vigor is what allows your team to venture forth to the next sector without freezing to death. Speaking of death… permadeath is a thing. Lose a team member, and you lose him/her for good. But I’ve found that sacrifices were necessary in a couple boss battles.

Vambrace, Cold Soul, Party Setup, Combat
Setup your team of four wisely, as it will greatly affect your strategy and combat effectiveness!

Deep Characterization… and Bonuses for the Curious

I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of lore in which they’ve filled the world of Icenaire. Occasionally, you’ll run across scraps of codex pages that help fill out the world and its history. You can learn more about the characters and locations thanks to filling out your codex. This helps encourage exploration when you’re in certain areas. There are bonuses for players who are willing to go out of their way. Side quests can provide you with new costumes for Lyric and other helpful things to make your journey easier. You can also craft new and better gear, if you’re willing to collect ingredients and explore the crafting lists. Trust me, crafting is VERY worth it.

Vambrace, Cold Soul, Icenaire, Green Flame
Icenaire is populated by all sorts of characters. Humans, Elf kind, and even animal-like races. And they all have to figure out how to get along while dealing with the forces of the Green Flame.

Final Thoughts on Vambrace: Cold Soul

Overall, Vambrace: Cold Soul is a wonderfully put-together game. The gameplay has some wonderful depth, the world lore is fleshed out, and the artwork is downright gorgeous. I had tried to play it once in its original (challenging) form and then played through it in its patched-up form. Initially, the game was quite punishing with both the permadeath combined with a heightened enemy difficulty. The design was intentional, so I can’t fault it for that. But after some feedback from other players, the game was patched to have both its original mode and a mode that tones the combat down to something more manageable for all. Not being a hardcore Souls gamer, I was one of the folks that enjoyed the toning down of the game difficulty. It allowed me to enjoy the story and tinker with the various levels of strategy more.

There’s even a New Game+, thanks to one of the patches, but I’ve yet to experience it. I can tell you though that I certainly will be giving this game another playthrough once I unlocked New Game+. If you’re looking for a rogue-like experience with a fun story and lots of lore to explore, I would highly recommend that you check out Vambrace: Cold Soul!

Boxing Fights We Need to See in 2020

0

2020 could be the year of some epic boxing matches

The glorious days of boxing matches are coming back. In recent years, we’ve seen many great talents rise to fame and the matches are becoming more interesting to watch. The recent fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder is a good proof of what we just said. Their match was full of excitement and the outcome was unpredictable. Because of the increasing popularity of the sport, even online casinos like NoviCasino started making casino games with graphics based on boxers and the sport, in general, as a way to attract more people to their sites.

The past couple of years have given us great fights and we are looking forward to seeing many more in the upcoming years. Every division has great boxers and all of them are keen and highly motivated to get their hands on the belts. We recently witnessed Canelo Alvarez jumping 2 divisions to have a go at the Light Heavyweight belt. He fought Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev and won via knockout in the 11th round and became a four-division champion. In short, we are expecting some bouts, filled with adrenaline and competition. There are many potential record-breakers, which is why we decided to give you a list of the three fights we need to see in 2020.

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 2

The first bout between these two was absolutely legendary. On one side, Deontay Wilder was keen on defeating one of the greatest boxers in the division, and on the other side, Fury was looking for redemption after battling with depression and substance abuse for 3 years.

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder

The fight between these two was very aggressive with numerous shots landed and quite a few knockouts. Both of them were undefeated, which made the bout even more exciting. In the end, the judges decided that the match was a draw. Since then, the two fighters have been sending shots at each other and there are talks about a rematch, but nothing specific. Hopefully, we’ll see that happening in 2020.

Fury/ Wilder vs Anthony Joshua/ Andy Ruiz Jr.

If the potential bout between Fury and Wilder takes place, it is only right for the winner of that fight to face the winner between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr. Everybody deemed Ruiz as an outsider to the game, with no chance of being the champion, but he managed to defeat Joshua in the first match and become the first Mexican Heavyweight champion.

The rematch between the two will take place in December, and it would be spectacular is we can see the winner of that bout face the winner between Fury and Wilder. These four are the best fighters in the division and there is no doubt that we’ll see an excellent fight.

Floyd Mayweather vs Anybody

Although Floyd announced that he was retiring after the bout against Conor McGregor, he recently changed his mind. He took it to Instagram to announce his return in 2020 and said that he has something special coming as he is in talks with Dana White, the president of the UFC. Who knows, maybe we’ll see the rematch with him and Conor, or we’ll see him fight Khabib.

Boxing fans are also craving a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, as final capstone to each of the hall-of-famers careers.  Could Mayweather handle Pacman, who boxing fans have witnessed in the ring recently, is an entirely different question.
