The current lineup has been together since 2016 and includes Josh Campbell (Guitar/Vocals), Josh Grove (Bass/Backing Vocals), and Quin Koldan (Drums). New single “Tense” was produced by Jason Schrick and award-winning producer Malcolm Springer (Matchbox 20, Collective Soul, Fear Factory). After years of preparation, the band is ready to vault to the national scene and beyond.
The song features driving riffs and thunderous percussion backing smooth vocals that offer comfort amid the chaos of existence. Explaining the genesis of “Tense” Campbell says “The song is about health anxiety/hypochondria and describes the feelings and struggles that are associated with the condition. We want people to know it’s OK not to be OK, and that we all have periods of stress, doubt and worry. We’re lucky to have this creative outlet of music to help express those emotions and we hope it resonates with fans”.
The video was directed by Juan Ibanez (Ashland, The Many Colored Death).
It was filmed at his studio in St. Louis, MO. Performance videos are commonplace these days, but Dark Below wanted to make “Tense” special. Here’s Josh Campbell take on the experience of making his first music video:
“I think the main thing that stood out to me is how hot it was. Once everything was set up and ready to go, we had to wait a bit because it was so humid that it was actually foggy in the room. Going into production, I was pretty nervous since I hadn’t been part of making one before, but Juan was really great to work with and helped put us at ease by just being laid back and telling us not to worry about making mistakes. I’ll admit that making the video was a hell of a workout. With the heat and just having to play the song over and over, giving it everything I had, it was definitely not easy!”
Dark Below came together from a Craigslist post that Josh Campbell made in search of musicians for a hard rock band. Josh Grove was friends with the band members and was hanging out a rehearsal one day. Grove was a guitarist – but after hearing Campbell and the original drummer talking about needing a bass player, he volunteered to give it a go. Campbell says “I didn’t really want to sing originally but we couldn’t find anyone.” He continues, “so with me singing and playing guitar, Grove on bass, and the original drummer we started playing shows in the Columbia area”. After the original drummer left the band, Quin Koldan joined in 2016 to solidify the current lineup.
The band has previously released their self-titled EP in 2017, and the single “Halo” in 2019.
They have toured for the past 5 years, opening for Buckcherry, Saliva, Pop Evil, Smile Empty Soul, The Veer Union, and more. A new full-length album is currently being recorded, which is also being produced by Schrick and Springer. The band is currently booking dates to begin playing live to support the new music in the fall.

BELLATOR MMA ANNOUNCES MASSIVE RETURN TO MILAN, ITALY’S ALLIANZ CLOUD ARENA ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29
MILAN – BELLATOR MMA has today announced another blockbuster European show as the leading mixed martial arts promotion returns to the Allianz Cloud Arena in Milan, Italy on Saturday, October 29.
Following up on monumental events in Dublin, Paris and London already this year, the BELLATOR cage touches down in the home of the gladiators for an explosive night of MMA action in the first fan-attended event in Italy since October 2019. The promotion hosted three behind-closed-doors shows in the fashion capital during the global pandemic in September and October of 2020.
Full event details and further confirmed bouts are set to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets for the event go on sale today, Wednesday, July 20, and can be purchased online at Bellator.com and Bellator.it.

Los Angeles — BELLATOR MMA today announced the addition of six bouts to the preliminary portion of the blockbuster BELLATOR 284: Gracie vs. Yamauchi event slated to take place on Friday, August 12 from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The main card begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on SHOWTIME, while the preliminary portion of the action will begin at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT and stream on Pluto TV, and the SHOWTIME Sports and BELLATOR MMA YouTube channels.
The event is headlined by No. 5-ranked welterweight contender Neiman Gracie (11-3 MMA, 9-3 BMMA) taking on the man with the most submission finishes in company history, Goiti Yamauchi (27-5 MMA, 13-4 BMMA). It will be a five-round, 170-pound main event matchup. Also on the main card, heavyweight contenders in former interim champion Valentin Moldavsky (11-2 MMA, 6-1 BMMA) and the undefeated No. 5-ranked Steve Mowry (10-0 MMA, 6-0 BMMA) will meet in a thunderous clash with the potential to shape championship aspirations. Former flyweight champion and No. 4-ranked contender Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (11-2 MMA, 10-2 BMMA) will look to return to the win column against Brazil’s Bruna Ellen (6-3 MMA, 4-3 BMMA) on the televised portion of BELLATOR 284.
Spearheading the preliminary card additions to the event, number two ranked middleweight Austin “The Gentleman” Vanderford (11-1 MMA, 5-1 BMMA) and #9-ranked Anthony “Sugafoot” Adams (9-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) will meet in a battle of top-10 middleweight contenders vying to establish themselves in the wake of Johnny Eblen’s upset victory over former champion Gegard Mousasi at BELLATOR 282 last month.

A heavyweight bout between Bailey “Berserk” Schoenfelder (2-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) and Mark “The Jackhammer” Currier (1-1) and two bantamweight contests between #9-ranked “Gentleman” Josh Hill (21-4 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) and Matheus “Adamas” Mattos (13-2-1 MMA, 1-1 BMMA), and Mitchell “Merciless” McKee (2-0) and Tony Ortega (5-4), respectively. Rounding out the preliminary additions, a battle of two top-ten flyweights is confirmed, as #6-DeAnna Bennett (12-7-1) goes toe-to-toe against #8-Justine Kish (8-5).
Austin Vanderford, 32, returns to the cage after losing for the first time in his professional career against then-champion Gegard Mousasi at BELLATOR 275 in February. Stoppage loss to Mousasi aside, Vanderford amassed a lengthy winning streak inside the BELLATOR cage that included dominant victories over Fabian Edwards and Vinicius de Jesus, among others. The former NAIA National wrestling champion and two-time NAIA All-American displays his refined wrestling skills alongside a more complete MMA game honed at American Top Team alongside top training partners and wife Paige VanZant.
Opposite Vanderford, #10-ranked Anthony Adams will look to continue to build upon the momentum he earned with a unanimous decision victory over Khalid Murtazalievin his BELLATOR debut last September at BELLATOR 266. The 34-year-old Elevation Fight Team product is no stranger to proving himself under the sport’s brightest lights; his win over Murtazaliev secured him a multi-fight deal with BELLATOR. With a win over Vanderford, Adams would likely find himself squarely inside the division’s Top-5 and establish himself as a viable title contender.
BELLATOR MMA’s commitment to the development of world-class martial artists inside the BELLATOR cage continues at BELLATOR 284 with the professional MMA debut of Pat Downey III.
Downey, 29, is a decorated wrestler whose accolades include an NJCAA national title, NCAA Division I All-American honors, and medals at the Pan-American Games, U.S. National Championships, Junior World Championships, and Big 12 Championships. The burgeoning prospect joins the BELLATOR middleweight division with high expectations and much fanfare.
American Top Team staple Said Sowma, 30, has faced a veritable murderers’ row of opponents despite only turning pro in 2018. Inside the BELLATOR cage, Sowma has impressed fight fans by dispatching of more credentialed foes in former champion Vitaly Minakov and the veteran Ronny Markes. Against Saricam, Sowma will look to rebound from a split-decision loss to undefeated #8-ranked contender Davion Franklin at BELLATOR 274.
#10-ranked Gokhan Saricam, meanwhile, enters the fight with Sowma on the strength of three straight wins under the BELLATOR MMA banner. The 31-year-old has displayed a strong killer instinct during his time inside the BELLATOR cage. He scored two first-round knockouts via ground-and-pound in his three victories. Saricam is a teammate of the legendary Gegard Mousasi.
Originally slated to compete as part of the incredible BELLATOR Bantamweight World Grand Prix tournament as a title- and $1,000,000-prize hopeful, Canada’s Josh Hill will look to prove he’s still right in the thick of things among the bantamweight division’s elite with a bout against Matheus Mattos at BELLATOR 284. The 35-year-old has won three of his four BELLATOR matchups in convincing fashion. He dropped his lone loss to interim champion Raufeon Stots by decision at BELLATOR 258 last May. The #9-ranked Hill seeks to ride the momentum from a vicious second-round KO of Jared Scoggins at BELLATOR 272 that initially prompted his inclusion in the Bantamweight World Grand Prix.
Looking to insert himself into the conversation of BELLATOR’s bantamweight best is Brazil’s Matheus Mattos, 30. A veteran of the Russian and Brazilian MMA scenes, Mattos bounced back from a unanimous decision loss to Bantamweight World Grand Prix semifinalist Magomed Magomedov. This occurred in his BELLATOR debut with a thrilling second-round knockout of Cee Jay Hamilton at BELLATOR 262 last July. Daniel Bohn is a singer-songwriter from St. Louis, Missouri, focusing on progressive metal. Sometimes known as the “thinking man’s heavy metal”, progressive metal is wide reaching catch all for heavier types of music.
With influences from bands such as Buried And Me, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, The Ocean and Obscura, Daniel strives to make unique, dark, twisted and melodic music. He loves to write about nature and mental disorders, like anxiety and depression. His goal is to help people and the world heal through music and to create an emotional journey for the audience to partake in. Slickster: What are some of the earliest guitarists or bands that got you into prog metal? Bohn: Some of the earliest guitarists would be Synyster Gates and Buckethead. Between The Buried and Me and The Ocean are what really helped me push into Prog Metal. The album Colors (Between the Buried and Me) was life changing for me. Same with Pre Cambrian from the ocean!
Slickster: You’re from St. Louis, is KMOX radio still a thing there? Bohn: It very much is! Even in the age of streaming they have maintained a popular radio presence. Same with 1057 The Point.
Slickster: Recently you signed with Sliptrick Records. What are your expectations from this and how do you feel it will help further your musical career? Bohn: It’s very exciting! One just having that validation and that they are willing to invest time and money in my music and career. My expectations and goals are to be able to utilize their resources to help further gain awareness of listeners and attain new fans. Hopefully, they will help me grow my brand and I can grow theirs with a great mutual beneficial relationship.
Slickster: Yes or No, has Metallica been relevant in the heavy metal scene for the last three decades? Bohn: Of course, they are in my opinion one of the founding fathers of Metal. Without them and their success, we wouldn’t have as much great metal as we do today. Also, they show us what a metal artist can achieve in this pop centric world.
Slickster: What else would you like to add or say to your online followers? Bohn: Follow your dreams, if you have a strong passion, don’t give up on it! Great things take hard work and time, but good results will happen. Metal for life!

Which is why many people in need of a good used car turn to alternate sources to purchase. Local social media groups, Craigslist, and classified ads are few good places to look. There are some good deals on these websites, but remember the rule, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” You aren’t going to find a recent years model pickup truck for $2000 without something seriously wrong with it.
How can you steer clear of buying a lemon, when you buy a used vehicle?
Without being a certified mechanic with 20 years of repairing cars and trucks, there are few things that anyone can do to find red flags right away. Here are four things to check before you buy a used vehicle.
VIN Report
A VIN number is a “vehicle identification number”, and every vehicle has one. If your’s doesn’t for some reason, immediately walk away from the sale… it’s stolen! You can find VIN numbers on the car in various places. Most are located on a metal tag on the dashboard, or a sticker inside the driver’s side front door frame.
Before you purchase any used vehicle, you need to run a VIN report. It will tell you a few vital bits of information including:
How many owners the vehicle has had.
Any major damages, ie flood or hail.
Some maintenance performed (if recored)
Much more.
There are websites that provide these reports for free or low cost. Be warned, some of the sites are more sneaky than they look and will offer a free report, but have hidden subscription fees. Be sure to read the small print before you hand over your credit card number.
Checking a VIN report is a simple and low cost way to uncover any red flags when buying a used vehicle. Anyone can do it, and you may save yourself a lot of money in repairs later.
Fluids levels and condition
Checking the fluid levels and condition of a used vehicle isn’t as hard as it sounds. It may even be as easy as looking under the car to see if there is anything leaking (another red flag that you should move on).
All machines and motors require lubrication to run smoothly and correctly. A used vehicle is no different. Be sure to pop the hood and check at a minimum;
Engine oil
Power steering
Brake fluid
Washer fluid (*Not critical, but shows if the owner takes care of the car.)
If the seller of used car doesn’t want you poking around under the hood or refuses you to perform a basic check of fluids, then it’s time to walk away.
Maintenance documentation
You don’t have to be a grew monkey to check a maintenance log. When you buy a used car ask to see if the owner has any proof of the work and/or repairs that he claims he has done. Receipts for parts or labor, including the date and price are great place to start.
He said he did the front brakes and rotors in 2022? Then let’s check his paperwork and see if it lines up.
Body rust
Rust is an iron oxide, a usually reddish-brown oxide formed by the reaction of iron and oxygen in the catalytic presence of water or air moisture. Basically when iron and contacts the air, you get that nasty brown stuff. It’s no good for boats and even worse for a used vehicle.
When you buy an older vehicle, for example a work truck, some rust on the body panels or truck bed may be acceptable. However, don’t just take a quick look and call it good. You need peer under the body of the truck. Bring a flashlight with you or be a typical millennial and use the flashlight on your phone.
Look for any areas of rust on the solid structural supports, any holes in the body and anything dripping water from rust spots. These are major red flags. Pass on the car or truck and spend your hard earned money on something else.

The Riddle Of Steel is another power packed solo album by US rock/metal/blues guitarist, Leslie Ripp.
Keeping up with his tradition of original instrumental compositions, Leslie not only showcases his unique guitar playing style and sound, but also tries to provide the listener with a musical escape from the mundane burdens of everyday living to a place of fantasy and adventure. The album was inspired by the 1982 film classic ‘Conan The Barbarian’, based on the fictional character created by the late Robert E. Howard and written/directed by John Milius and Oliver Stone.

Slickster: Which Conan movie is your favorite and why? Ripp: I’d have to say, the original 1983 version ‘Conan the Barbarian’ will always be my favorite, mostly because of the unforgettable plot and characters that make it a true classic.
Slickster: How did you think the 2011 remake held up against the original Arnold movies? Ripp: Although I did like it a lot, and Jason Momoa seemed to fit the image, I don’t think the characters were as interesting and memorable as the ones in the Arnold versions. It’s a great tough guy revenge type film, but I think it just as well could have been about anyone and failed to make the statement that this is a Conan film.
Slickster: Can you please detail your guitar practice routine. Ripp: I would actually describe my practice routine as kind of backwards. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not as disciplined as I should be when it comes to practice. I don’t have a set practice schedule to follow, and if I’m not recording or working on a new song, I’ll pick up an instrument maybe once or twice a week when I get the urge, and just spontaneously play stuff like rhythms or riffs with no planned goal or purpose in mind. I guess for me, the focus is more on practicing being creative rather than practicing technique or mastering the instrument. And yes, there were many times when I wanted to lay down some shred tracks for a new song, but the fingers just couldn’t keep up. At which point I was forced to dedicate the time to get back in shape. That’s how backwards my practice routine is.
Slickster: Will you be touring in support of the album. If yes, where and when? Ripp: Being a solo studio musician, I currently don’t have the means to play live anywhere. I do however miss the thrill of playing live in front of audiences, and hope to one day, stray from the soloist instrumental stuff and put together a dedicated band with a vocalist, and most definitely get out there on tour and play anywhere there’s a pair of ears willing to listen.
Slickster: Anything you’d like to share or say to your fans? Ripp: Can’t thank you guys enough for your support and dedication toward keeping the spirit of rock/metal alive and going strong. Keep it loud, keep it metal.

Starting off the album, Flesh And Burn is a fast pace, metal ballad featuring dual harmony guitar riffs and Leslie’s signature style guitar leads. In the film, flesh is said to be stronger than steel, so goes the riddle.
Second in line, The Sword And The Crown, is a mid tempo melodic metal ballad that takes us back to a time where one could become a King by one’s own hand.
The third spot goes to Eye Of The Serpent, a mid tempo, metal ballad with flowing guitar leads crossing the boundaries of classic and neo classical metal styles. In the film, the eye represents a prized jewel almost impossible to steal, but worth risking a life for those who dare.
Battle Heart, number four on the list, is a mid tempo power metal ballad resurrected from a pool of old eighties material that never got used. Totally reeking of that typical eighties metal style and sound, it now adds a nice touch to the overall flow of the album.
Thulsa Doom, the power hungry cult leader in the film, and also the title of the fifth track on the album, is a mid tempo rock ballad featuring a heavy swing style beat.
The Riddle Of Steel, the title track at number six, is a mid tempo melodic metal ballad. Actually, the first song composed and recorded, setting the theme for the rest of the album, and also, the underlying theme of the film.
Number seven, The Tree Of Woe, as one might guess, is a slow haunting metal ballad, depicted in the film as the tree to which Conan is crucified to contemplate the meaning of the riddle.
Kingdom Crom, number eight on the list, is a mid tempo rock ballad with an uplifting melody that will make you want to take off and go soaring through the clouds, and possibly drop in on the Cimmerian god Crom while you’re at it.
Number nine, Thief In The Night, another mid tempo rock ballad with a stomping rhythm and dancing guitar and piano leads.
Winding down with another slow metal ballad, Valeria, Conan’s only equal in battle, and tragically lost lover, closes out the album with crying guitars, that feel like all is lost, but yet are powerful in the sense that hope and glory may lie just over the horizon.

If you’ve got the time to enjoy all the wonderful things life has to offer, there’s a chance you may not the money sufficient to do so. Crypto-millioniares, this doesn’t apply to you, so move on. It’s a wicked double edged sword that many young guys deal with. They want more time to work out, party, travel, hunt, play video games, or spend time with friends and family. This list of could go on, and you can add whatever hobbies or pastimes you enjoy.
If there was only a way to have more free time.
Unless you know something about Einstein’s Theory of Relativity we don’t, you can’t add any more hours to the day; Twenty four is all you have to work with. So, here are a few ways that you can have more free time.
Less screen time
According to some studies, Americans spend five or more hours a day on their smart phones. With Millennials, that number is even higher. By simply litmiting your screen time on your phone, laptop, tablet, etc… you may be able to free up one to two hours easier than you thought. A good strategy to do that is check emails at set times per day, instead of constantly.
Also, dedicate a time when you are not available to answer texts and calls. There was a time when returning calls (and texts) was appropriate the following day. That may not be the case in 2022, but learn to set boundaries on when you’re going to pick up your screen device. By doing this, you’ll have more free time faster than you though.
Take the bus
Self driving cars are still a ways from being allowed on public streets. In the meantime, why not let someone else do the driving for you. Public transportation may not be as convenient as driving your own car, but it’s better for the Earth and you’ll probably save some money too. Gasoline is at an all time high in 2022!
Try and combine the advice above with riding the bus; get your screen time while your on the bus and killed two birds with one stone. BOOM! More free time to get after activities that you really want to engage in.
Wake up earlier
Roosters are cocks. That’s why everyone hates them. They get up early and wake everyone else up. They also get laid more than anyone, so maybe this strutting cock knows something lazy guys don’t.
Set your alarm clock. (*Get a real alarm clock, not a phone, or you may fall victim to #1). Get up 30 mins earlier each day and you’ve created nearly three extra hours of free time in your week. This isn’t new advice, but some of the most sucessful people in the history of the world follow this advice.
Declutter your living space
Have you ever lost your keys, phone, sun glasses and spent 30 minutes looking for them, only to find them in your pocket? If yes, that’s a good sign that it’s time for you to start throwing your “stuff” away. Decluttering is one excellent way to free up more time. Not only does it remove distractions, it also helps you focus on which projects or tasks that are most important. For you single guys, that might be going a date once and a while!
Hire someone
Do you want more free time? There is a simple answer, but it is different from other ideas on this list, as it will cost you money. The answer is; hire someone! If your living space is dirty and you “don’t have time to clean it”, then hire a cleaning service. If you need to change the oil on your car (Check out How To Be Manly), maybe it’s time to hire someone. Accountants make this work tenfold when it comes to taxes.
Save yourself time, and just pay someone else to do the job.
