WrestleMania aims to provide entertainment amidst quarantine

WrestleMania: Too Big For One Night

Image result for Wrestlemania 36 Logo

It seems like the world has gone crazy, hasn’t it? I’m sure I can’t be the only one who thinks so. After all, there’s mass panic, chaos in the streets and toilet paper is flying off shelves at a truly alarming rate. People are quarantining themselves in their homes with nothing to do and no sports to watch on television. So, what is one to do? Well, for those wishing to have a little bit of normalcy from the coronavirus there is a glimmer of hope. Despite the NBA, NHL, MLB and other organizations postponing or outright canceling their seasons, one might wonder if the biggest event in sports and entertainment WrestleMania, would or possibly could suffer the same fate.

Well, I can tell you that WWE has decided that WreslteMania is too big for one night! Yes, that’s right. WrestleMania is still happening and it will take place over not one, but two nights. Of course, due to the threat of the virus there will be some major changes to the show this year. In fact, in addition to taking place over two nights April 4th and 5th, WrestleMania will also take place with zero fans in attendance. How bizarre is that? No fans? That’s unheard of! WrestleMania 36 is shaping up to be an event that is wholly unique and may be something we’ve never truly seen before and may be too big for one night.

How will the matches go?

Now, how in the world is WWE going to pull-off a show with no fans? Wrestling is after all, one sport where the performers count on feedback from the audience in attendance. Given WWE is promoting their biggest show of the year as being “too big for one night”, they are being forced to come up with some creative solutions for many of the matches. For example, WreslteMania will not be airing live this year. Yes, you heard that correctly. Mania will air on the WWE Network, but obviously not air live. Instead the show will be pre-taped with several matches taking place in different locations, while others take place at WWE’s Performance Center in Orlando.

That’s quite a tall order when you think about it. Not only do you have to put on a show, you have to juggle putting it on in multiple locations. Hopefully, it won’t come off as being disjointed.

John Cena Vs “The Fiend”

Of the 16 bouts scheduled for WrestleMania this year several of them are sure to be high stakes contests. One of those matches will be John Cena taking on “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. Last time these two met was at WrestleMania 30, in New Orleans. Cena walked out with a victory on that night. Fast forward seven years later and both men are at very different stages of their careers. Wyatt is looking to avenge his loss and regain some momentum after losing the Universal Title to Goldberg. Cena meanwhile, hasn’t wrestled since January and has since been focusing more on a career in Hollywood.

I honestly don’t know how this one is going to go. Cena’s been away for quite a while and really doesn’t need the victory. Plus, this won’t be your typical match. Cena will take on Wyatt in a “Firefly House of Fun”, match. What is that? I have absolutely no idea. However, I have no doubt this will be a physical affair and Wyatt may have an advantage given the nature of the contest.

WWE Title

Boy, I tell you what this may be the match that winds up stealing the show. Brock Lesnar and Drew Mcintyer are set to go one-on-one for the richest prize in wrestling. With Mcintyer winning the Rumble and assaulting Lesnar with a Claymore kick on Raw the following night, he sent a firm message to the champion that he’s coming for his title.

Will the title change hands? That’s the question. In my opinion, I do think we see Mcintyre beat Lesnar and walk out champion. Why you ask? Simply because Drew Mcintyre is the future of the industry and this is his opportunity to shine on the biggest stage of them all. Expect to see some great wrestling in this one.

A Boneyard Match!

I’ll be the first to admit this has me excited! The Undertaker hasn’t competed since Extreme Rules and he missed WrestleMania last year. How could anyone not be ecstatic to see him back in the ring? Not to mention, Styles has made this extremely personal by calling Taker an “old man,” and claiming the only reason he’s still around is due to his wife, Michelle McCool. If I were AJ Styles, I’d keep my words soft and sweet, because it’s not wise to infuriate the Deadman.

By the way, I have no clue what a Boneyard Match, actually is. If I had to guess it will take place in a graveyard of some sort. I guess we’ll find out.

Universal Title

GOLDBERG VS BRAUN STROWMAN 2020 WWE 2K20 LIVE ! FAIL GAME LIVE 2 ...

You want to talk about physicality? Look no further than the Universal Title match. Goldberg who was originally scheduled to take on Roman Reigns, will instead battle the “Monster Among Men,” Braun Strowman. Folks, this one is going to be a barn burner. Honestly, this one could go either way in my opinion. Will the title change hands? We’ll just have to wait and see. Unquestionably, this will be a very different WrestleMania and it definitely is too big for one night!

Batsubo

Asian  Russian dancer, Batsubo, is the girl of the week.  She travels the whole world and gets her kicks by teasing men and shaking her hips.  Malta and Singapore are some of her favorite destinations.  When she isn’t dancing you can often find Batsubo getting wet at spas, beaches and hot tubs.

Girl of the Week - Batsubo

Sometimes there is nothing more intimidating to men than a sexy girl.  Many beautiful women are surprised when they discover that extremely alluring looks are what scare men away.  It’s kind of a reverse psychology effect: guys see a woman, and think she is out of their league.  Many times the opposite is true – she’s begging for you to approach her and ask her out

Master Chief Collection: Halo CE Anniversary is Out on PC

Written by Jonathan Lee. March 8, 2020, 2:00pm. Tweet to: @Writerscube

It’s been a long time coming. The general crowd sentiment was that eventually Halo would make its way onto PC in all earnest. We just didn’t know when. The first two Halo games had come to PC before in the past, but after that the ports had stopped. People who did not own an Xbox 360 or beyond had no way to play the games from Halo 3 on. Then, on December 3, 2019, the Halo: Master Chief Collection arrived on Steam, just a little over five years since the Master Chief Collection was released on the Xbox One.

PC Players Rejoice, Slowly

Since the collection’s release late last year, only Halo: Reach and Halo CE Anniversary are available. Slowly, but surely, players can expect all the Halo titles to be chronologically slow-dripped onto their Steam libraries (up to Halo 4). Along with each of the Halo games, players can expect some PC optimizations along the way. The collective team of 343 Industries, Ruffian Games, Saber Interactive, and Splash Damage have been very busy.

Immediately, when I first opened Halo: Reach, the first thing I noticed was how mappable everything was for buttons. For those who love their 4k displays and high FPS, there’s that to enjoy as well. I haven’t toyed much with the FOV settings, but I suspect some users will be thrilled to have that depending on their display setups. And then, there’s the multiplayer. It was refreshing to get back into Halo multiplayer again, and with all the modes and maps they’ve included so far. With each Halo title released, more maps will be on the way.

Master Chief Collection, Ghost, Combat Evolved, Halo

The Master Chief Collection Experience Up to Now

With Halo CE Anniversary now out for the PC version, I’ve had a chance to finally make a comparison with the only other released title, Halo: Reach. It’s important because of how these games are getting released one at a time, rather than all at once. This would seem to give the developing team time to work on the bugs in one title, and apply lessons learned for the next release.

When Halo: Reach first came out, it had a variety of issues. Some of the more noticeable ones involved audio and matchmaking problems. But since the team began working on those issues, a steady stream of patches vastly improved the Halo: Reach experience. Then the Halo CE Anniversary drop went practically without a hitch. I suspect this had to do with all the team had learned from working on Reach. Since playing Halo CE Anniversary, my favorite feature has to be the ability to switch between classic Xbox graphics and the new-and-improved graphics. It warmed my nostalgic heart to see those old graphics, even though the new ones were impressive.

While visually appealing, both Halo: Reach and Halo CE Anniversary seem to still have some audio quirks going on. On one hand, Halo: Reach’s audio is smooth, the music comes out nicely, but the weapons fire SFX still feels subdued and muted. Meanwhile, Halo CE Anniversary has powerful weapon SFX and music, but with instances where voices seem to get dampened. I’ll continue to track these details as more patches roll out and more Halo titles are dropped into the Master Chief Collection.

Pillar of Autumn, Halo, Master Chief Collection

Halo Multiplayer is Alive! But Xbox/PC Crossplay?

It’s no surprise that Halo’s multiplayer is still alive and kicking, but I was unsure of how well the multiplayer community would translate from Xbox to PC. I was hoping for Xbox vs PC crossplay capabilities, but unfortunately there is still no ability for us PC players to go head-to-head with any of our peers on Xbox. This makes a sort of sense, however. I can imagine there may have to be a great deal of balancing out between aim adjustments, shot dispersion, accounting for controller aim vs mouse speed, and more. And the team’s already working hard on just getting the Halo titles out one at a time.

Sadly, that makes me feel like there might not be Console/PC crossplay any time soon. But on the bright side, it seems that the multiplayer has grown just nicely on PC. Initially, the multiplayer had some annoying matchmaking problems. But since the early patches, the matchmaking process has been running smooth.

Halo, Reach, Master Chief Collection

Final Thoughts on the Master Chief Collection… So Far

I’m just relieved to finally be back to playing Halo again! It’s great to see that these titles are coming to PC and in a neat collection as it is. I was initially disappointed that not all games were available for a massive Halo binge, but it may be fortuitous. With issues being patched as they are, each game is released better than the last. I do hope the collection of developers will look back to Halo: Reach and Halo CE Anniversary to address the ongoing sound imbalances, however. Judging from the health of the multiplayer, there seems to be many players who have purchased the Master Chief Collection (Almost 2 million copies were sold, according to DualShockers). This gives me hope that once this collection is complete, perhaps Microsoft will also formally release Halo 5 onto PC. (There is the Halo 5: Forge out there in the Microsoft Store)

Another thing to look out for is Halo: Infinite coming out this year in late 2020. While details are still on the light side, here’s what we know will be coming out with Halo: Infinite so far:

  • Will be built on the new “Slipspace Engine”
  • Will feature another Halo structure
  • 343 Industries promises that Halo will “always have split-screen going forward” (DICE Summit, 2017)
  • Forge Mode
  • Will come out for Xbox and PC

2020 is looking to be a great year of Halo nostalgia… and our next steps into Halo’s future.

Basking in the Soft Blue Lights with Tex Moonlight

0

Basking in the Soft Blue Lights

.              Tex Moonlight creates a unique style of music that he calls Americonica; it’s a blend of Americana and electronic music. His latest single “Soft Blue Lights” showcases that blend perfectly.

When I do these reviews, I usually end up wandering hip deep into subgenres that I have either never heard of or completely ignored. With this one, it was a little different. A good portion of my usual playlist is full of Americana. Acts like The Deavil Makes Three, The Dead South, and Goodnight Texas stay in my heavy rotation. At the same time, I listen to a good amount of electronic music. When I heard that Tex Moonlight was combining the two on tracks like “Soft Blue Lights” my interest was immediately piqued.

A Strange Sonic Marriage

I went into this track more curious than anything. I was even a little skeptical; sometimes the combination of two great things comes out less enjoyable than its individual components. It took about fifteen seconds to see that was not the case with “Soft Blue Lights”. The reverb-heavy guitar meets a laid back electronic drum track and creates an almost psychedelic atmosphere. That atmosphere gets deeper when the vocals hit. Moonlight’s delivery sounds like the beginning of a lifetime of drinking whiskey in dive bars; behind this is a pitch-shifted electronic vocal track creating an interesting harmony.

I dig the hell out of the sound of this track. It has the smooth guitar work that I love about neo-folk with that extra-chill psychedelic sound that I personally look for in electronic music most of the time. I never really thought that these two completely different sounds could come together to make something that enjoyable as more than a novelty, but Tex Moonlight nailed it on “Soft Blue Lights”.

Lyrically Speaking

One of the things that I love about Americana is the storytelling in the lyrics. It’s usually some fairly relatable tale of love, loss, or substance abuse wrapped up in metaphor and poetic imagery.  “Soft Blue Lights” is like that. If you replaced the slick electronic beat with some brushed drums and a sad fiddle this track would fit right in with songs from a good number of other Americana acts. I really dig that about the song. This just goes to show that Tex Moonlight isn’t just grabbing elements of what’s hot right now. He knows and respects the roots of what he’s building and has found a way to cultivate his own branch from those roots.

All in All…

All in all, would I recommend checking out “Soft Blue Lights”? Definitely. Tex Moonlight is taking seemingly incompatible elements and creating a new, original, and interesting sound that is all his own. If you like mellow tunes with insightful lyrics, you’ll dig this track. You can find this track and Moonlight’s debut LP Moonshot on Soundcloud right now. This track and his previous single “Roll You Up” are available on Spotify as well.

Death of a legend: Kobe Bryant gone too soon at 41.

Kobe Bryant, daughter, seven others perish in crash.

It’s been nearly a month since the sports world suffered a shocking, unthinkable tragedy. This is not going to be easy to write about trust me on that, folks. I’m not sure I’m capable nor qualified to be writing this particular piece, but I will do my absolute best. By now, most everyone is aware that Kobe Bryant his thirteen year-old daughter Gianna and seven others all perished in a helicopter crash. Like the rest of the world I was in shock when I heard the news. Kobe Bryant, dead? There were no words, absolutely no words at the time I could find to properly convey my feelings about what I had heard.

Bryant, his daughter and the others were on their way to Thousand Oaks, to his Mamba Sports Academy. Gianna was expected to play in a basketball tournament, a tournament where Bryant was also expected to coach. The copter which was flying in foggy weather, crashed in Calabasas, California just minutes from Thousand Oaks. Kobe had apparently been using a helicopter for years during his days with the Lakers flying to and from games as a way to beat the heavy Los Angeles traffic. Still, it feels surreal. It feels surreal to be writing about the fact that a legend is no longer here with us.

Kobe Bryant one of the greatest basketball players of all time, gone too soon at 41.

The other victims

Image result for Names of the victims in the helicopter crash

Kobe and his daughter weren’t the only ones in the helicopter when it went down that fateful morning. Seven other souls were on board with them as well. John Altobelli, a baseball coach for 27 seasons at Orange Coast College with more than 400 wins to his name, wife Keri and daughter Alyssa were aboard. Altobelli lead the Pirates to four California state junior college titles. He was named coach of the year in 2019. Sarah and Payton Chester were two other victims. 38 year-old Christina Mauser, an assistant girls basketball coach at Harbor Day School in Corona Del Mar, California was another victim. Bryant chose Mauser as an assistant coach for his daughter Gianna’s Mamba Academy team.  She left behind a husband and three children.

Finally, the pilot Ara Zobyan, someone Kobe obviously trusted to fly the helicopter that day also perished in the crash and subsequent brush fire that ensued. Nine lives. Nine lives cut drastically short. Some of those lives were just beginning, others were most likely no where close to being near the end. Perhaps, that’s one of the things I find to be so heartbreaking. Each of these individuals still feels like they had more to do, more to accomplish and now they won’t have the opportunity to do so.

Life after basketball

Image result for Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant

When Kobe Bryant retired from the NBA in 2016, many wondered how the next chapter in his life would unfold. Athletes often have trouble staying away from a sport they’ve dedicated their lives too and for someone like Bryant who had given twenty years of his life to the game of basketball, many thought it would be difficult for him to distance himself completely. However, that turned out not to be the case. Bryant was able to focus on a number of projects. I mean, how many people can say they won an Oscar their first time out? Kobe did that.

He won that award in 2018, for a short film he did entitled “Dear basketball,” which served as a love letter to the game he had played for so long. Again, how many people can say they won an Oscar on their first try? I can assure you not many. That’s one reason Kobe was so remarkable. He approached these other ventures off the court with the same relentless determination he displayed on the court. For Bryant it was all about telling stories and that’s one thing he did better than anyone else. Tell stories. Stories that would inspire not only this generation, but countless others as well.

A flawed man who became a legend and icon

Image result for Kobe Bryant Legend

Have you ever heard the phrase: “Hero’s come and go, but legends are forever?” Well, there’s no phrase, no saying that describes one Kobe Bean Bryant, better. Legends are defined by their legacies and Kobe’s legacy was more than basketball. Indeed, he was a true real-life hero who ultimately reached legendary status, but make no mistake he was far from perfect. Like every hero, every legend he as we all do, had a number of flaws. You can’t appreciate a person’s legacy without examining it from all aspects.

I’m referring of course, to the 2003 sexual assault case Bryant went through in Colorado. Often times this part of Bryant’s life is glossed over. No one likes to talk about it. Kobe managed to put it behind him and would go on to forge a legacy that few have achieved in professional sports.

Mourning and remembering

Image result for Remembering Kobe Bryant

No one will ever forget the day January 26, 2020. The world changed and ever since Kobe’s tragic passing the world has been in mourning. Fans, celebrities the Lakers organization their players and the NBA have all paid tribute to this man who inspired so many. Honestly, it’s quite difficult to put into context the impact Bryant made, an impact which expanded far beyond the reaches of the NBA. There will never be another like him. He will be missed.

Kobe Bryant, basketball icon, legend, gone but not forgotten.

Ten Best Vacation Spots for Bachelors

Ten Best Vacation Spots for Bachelors

For most people, the word “vacation” conjures images of families sightseeing or honeymooners traveling to an island resort. The single man looking to get away is mostly overlooked when it comes to vacation ideas  and advertising. Don’t worry, lone traveler, we’ve got you covered! I exhausted my resources to bring you a solid list of the best vacation spots for bachelors.

NYC

Even if you happen to live in New York City, there’s a good chance that you still haven’t seen all the Big Apple has to offer. The nightlife is full of countless bars and music venues. Once you’ve hit up a proper deli for a sandwich to help fight your hangover you can see the sites. There’s the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial and locations from iconic films. To round out your day, you can spend an afternoon in Central Park. There’s a little something for everyone in NYC.

Portland, OR

If you’re looking for good beer, cooler temperatures, and laid back locals Portland, Oregon is your town. This gem tucked away in the Pacific Northwest has more breweries than any other city in the US. It would take one hell of a wild weekend to work your way through all the craft beer on tap. If bar hopping isn’t you scene, you could always go pick up some top shelf edibles from a local dispensary and head out to Forest Park and hunt for Bigfoot.

New Orleans

Even if you miss the annual Mardi Gras celebrations, New Orleans is a great place to visit. It’s deep history and local culture make it one of the best vacation spots for bachelors who like the spooky stuff. The city has been the setting of hundreds of horror movies and novels.  From voodoo queens to giant fruity drinks, NOLA offers something a little different than your average tourist town.

Pigeon Forge, TN

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is a where you would want to go if you’re in the market for a fairly normal tourist town.  The fact that it’s a stone’s throw away from the Great Smoky Mountains sets it apart from the rest, though. It is a city built specifically to be a vacation destination. There are countless attractions, specialty shops, and restaurants lining the small mountain town’s streets. Imagine Branson, Missouri with some mountain charm. It’s good clean family fun with a side of moonshine. You can stay in one of the resort hotels or get yourself a cabin on the outskirts of town. Once you’ve had enough of all the lights and crowds get yourself a jar of moonshine and take a trip to the Smoky Mountains and clear your head.

Playa del Carmen

Do you want to take a trip south of the border? If you do but don’t want to be packed in with a bunch of college kids in Cancun or dodging the dangers of being in the wrong part of Tia Juana you can check out Playa del Carmen. It’s just about an hour away from Cancun so you can expect to find most of the same accommodations but with less hassle. The vibrant nightlife and inviting community make Playa del Carmen one of the best vacation spots for bachelors who want to get out and live a little but still want to chill.

Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is in the neighborhood of 2,000 miles and stretches from Georgia to Maine. You can choose to hike the whole thing or just a fraction of it. You can do it all solo or meet up with other hikers along the trail and make some new friends. Either way, if you’re looking to get away from it all or want to know what it’s like to drift from town to town this would be the vacation for you.

Asheville, NC

Asheville is laid back artsy mountain town tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. You can take your time visiting art galleries, breweries, and small quirky restaurants. On the other hand you can go and tour the gorgeous 8,000 acre Biltmore Estate for all of your classy Southern charm needs. Whether you’re looking for the lap of luxury or a bar full of gutter punks, Asheville has you covered.

Las Vegas

For as long as I can remember, Las Vegas has been one of the best vacation spots for bachelors.  You can take in the sites and sounds of the strip and call it a day or you can go in for the debauchery that makes Vegas so fun. Hit up the slot machines at one of the several casinos and enjoy some free drinks. Get your money up and move on to some table games. If you find yourself on a losing streak just go pick up some legal weed to soothe your nerves. If you’re feeling really adventurous you can take your winnings to one of Nevada’s legal brothels and end your vacation with a bang!

Austin, TX

Do you like beer, barbecue, and live music? Then you’ll love Austin, Texas. With a motto like, “Keep Austin weird” it’s easy to see how the capitol city stands out from the rest of the state. If you go in mid March, you can even check out the South by Southwest Festival. Even if you miss SXSW, you’ll find no shortage of live music and nightlife in Austin. Whenever you go, it’ll be easy to see why Austin is one of the best vacation spots for bachelors.

Road Trip

Inject some chaos into your solo vacation! Pick a direction, pack your bags, and get behind the wheel. With no real destination or schedule, you can take you time and experience all the little things that you’d pass up on a regular vacation. Do you want to check out the kind of shady tourist traps? Go for it! Want to stop for lunch and catch a mid-day movie? You don’t have anywhere else to be. In a time when we are all beholden to schedules and deadlines it is healthy to get away from everything and just live in the moment.

Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition Review

Bridgeone by Headup Games

Complete Lesson in Point A and B

Patience and contemplation are essential values. Clockstone Studio and Headup Games bring this in Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition to Nintendo Switch. Clearly, the game is a different game experience for every player. Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition’s idea is simple enough. Moreover, there are a series of fixed anchor points on the screen. In Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition, construct a stable bridge to allow various modes of transportation to cross the gaps the game offers. Does Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition offer the gameplay experience for every Switch owner?

A Bridge’s Tale

Bridgetwo by Headup Games

As an amateur bridge constructor, play 40 different levels and build bridges over valleys, canals, or rivers. Furthermore, apply stress tests to each construction, with cars, trucks, and trains, to make the sturdiest bridges and become an accomplished bridge builder.

The Blueprint

Bridgethree by Headup Games

Players use the analog stick to navigate the construction menu. Additionally, move your cursor to points on the screen to start the construction of your bridge. Again, press the A Button to use materials to construct the bridge. Equally, a combination of the analog stick and A Button to direct the use of your materials. Use the B Button to delete structural pieces. Press the left cross pad to move through the materials like wood, metal, and wire.

Press the Y Button to manipulate materials and adjust them on-screen. Furthermore, players use materials like wood, steel beams, wires, and concrete to create stable bridge structures. Once the bridge is complete, test the structures and send buses, cars, and other modes of transportation to test each bridge’s stability.  Even more, in the portable mode, players can create constructions with the touch screen on the Nintendo Switch.

Structural Makeup

Bridgefour by Headup Games

Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition has a simple user interface. Press the A Button to interact with the screen. Enter a primary map menu that takes you to Camatuga Mode. Players create original bridges across a series of landscape setups. Play Slope Mania mode. Create, akin to rollercoaster ramps, bridges that allow steep, safe, transportation. Train mode means heavy-duty bridge safety.

Players create dense, structurally sound bridges to allow all manner of trains to cross bridges and overpasses easily. Winter World, Easter Islands, and Spooky Islands modes are seasonal bridge modes players can complete during December, The Easter holiday, and close to Halloween.

Going to Jump

Bridgefive by Headup Games

Natsume’s Harvest Moon, Nintendo’s Animal Crossing, Focus Home Interactive’s Farming Simulator 20, and Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition are all anti-stress simulation games. These games carry some creative challenges. It can be fun, in my opinion, in spurts. The ease and relaxation in these efforts are paramount. Some people look forward to these experiences.

Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition needs a story mode.  Visuals and challenges in the game are solid. However, the bridge-focused aspect can get dull after long periods with this game. Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition’s focus is on all construction. There is no deadline, a story about getting the bridge done for a specific event, or any activity of this kind. For example, an option for an animated construction of an overpass during the Westward expansion during the 19th Century or help at the start of the Golden Gate Bridge is not available.

Conclusion

I’m not too fond of the kind of inactivity in this game. Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition is stable in the docked, tabletop, and portable modes. The game gets constant updates to it. Regardless, Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition does not do it for me creatively. I feel wrong for commenting on it. This game needs a way to introduce this concept of construction that is more creative. Specifically, active tutorials go further. The nature of development in this game is closer to if someone dumps a tub of Legos, or Kinex, in front of you and asks you to make something. Construction is excellent for real freelance creators that want to explore design elements.

This is starter physics. Kids can test their projects repeatedly. Their want to come back and check them can vary with each child, and per player experience. Moreover, Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition’s visuals, even seasonally, are the basis of this game. The reward is the satisfaction of a bridge’s completion. Bridge Constructor Ultimate Edition is the most influential bridge-specific game I have seen, but it needs to give the player more incentive to invest in it.

SistersRoyall5 by Strictly Limited Games

Nintendo Switch owners know challenges. Moreover, they familiarize themselves with the difficulties of a vertical, scrolling shooter. They try them in Nintendo’s eShop or on their online service. Enemy attacks overwhelm you.

Your reflexes may, or may not, kick in. Likewise, players must avoid multiple enemies’ attacks. Return fire without hesitation. Similarly, these games require patience, strategy, and endurance. Raiden was my arcade nemesis and a beast. Luckily, a second player makes the game bearable, but it is still just a relentless experience.

The Best Alternatives to Soda

0

You should really look for some alternatives to soda, dude. It’s really bad for you. Like, reaaaalllllyyyy bad for you. Ready for a shocker? Those six-packs of Diet Vanilla Coca-Cola Zero Calorie Super Zen Editions you slug every day… ARE REALLY FUCKING BAD FOR YOU. So if you like dying early, by all means, keep chugging away. But just so we’re clear, an unchecked addiction to sugary soda includes the following:

  1. Weight gain from not feeling full due high amounts of fructose.
  2. Large stores of fat from sucrose conversion by the liver.
  3. DIABETES
  4. Empty calories with zero vitamins, minerals, or fiber.
  5. Increased risk for heart disease.
  6. Increased risk for pancreatic or colorectal cancer.
  7. Slowly melting your teeth into nubs from the sugars and acids.
  8. You won’t be able to get it up.
  9. Dementia risks! Enjoy that sugar buzz you’ve got, because that will go away in an awful way.

So now that you understand just how stupid it is to be drinking this stuff like water, let’s look at some healthy alternatives to soda:

Water

Drinking Water as an Alternative to Soda

This should come as no surprise. Water is the staple of all things alive. Hell, because of water on Mars there’s a race to get there first and colonize the planet!

Drinking water is a really simple (and boring) alternative, but it really is just a damn good substitute for soda. So guys, get some H2O in your body! Besides keeping you hydrated so you don’t DIE, there’s a lot of other benefits for sticking to the clear stuff:

  1. Prevents kidney stones
  2. Improves weight loss
  3. Prevents hangovers
  4. Helps prevent erectile dysfunction
  5. Helps improve mental power
  6. Higher overall energy
  7. Physical performance improvements

So yeah, water is about as good as it gets for alternatives to soda. And if you ever need a couple laughs  while you’re at it head over to Reddit at /r/HydroHomies. Because what better way to start drinking water if you’ve got bros peer pressuring you into it? But maybe, regular water is a little… boring. What other alternatives are there?

Sparkling Water

Drinking Sparkling Water as an Alternative to Soda

Isn’t this just the same as regular water? Yes and no. Yes it’s still water, however this water has been carbonated giving it the softly bubbling fizz we associate with sodas. (Another name for sparkling water is soda water.)

Typically these drinks are had with some kind of a fruity twist. These can be traditional flavors like lemon, lime, cherry, or orange. Or it could be something along the lines of cucumber mint, blueberry açaí, or West Chinese Goji Berry. (I have no idea if the last one is real.)

Unlike regular soda, sparkling water doesn’t come with the caffeine, sugar, or other wacky ingredients they sneak in. (Partially hydroginated non-fat high fructose corn syrup anybody?) Mentally, your brain could have an easier time switching to this because of the familiar sensation to regular soda, giving you a mental edge in your war on empty calories.

Seltzer water used to have a negative reputation in the U.S. among guys; being seen as a feminine drink or some shit. But men are starting to realize that judging people by the type of water they drink is really stupid. The Bro Code dictates that making healthy choices is something to be encouraged. So if you need a fizzy and more flavorful alternative to the sugary caffeinated world of pop, give sparkling water a try.

But what if I still want caffeine?

Tea

Tea as alternatives to soda

Whether it’s green or black, hot or cold, tea is one of the oldest drinks in existence. Thought to have been created when a tea tree leaf was blown into the hot water of an emperor in China, tea has been around for thousands of years.

A common favorite of eastern medicine, tea has something of a mythic status. But to stick to just what science has been telling us. Coming in with about half the caffeine of soda, tea is a good way to ween yourself off that jittery addiction. Besides helping decrease your caffeine intake, tea can also help several other ways:

  1. Improved digestion
  2. Antioxidants to flush out pollution
  3. Reduce risks for heart attack and stroke
  4. Preventing bone loss (You’ll really like this one when you’re older)
  5. Prevention of cavities (It doesn’t wear down tooth enamel either)
  6. 0 calories (when it’s pure that is)

Another newer way to enjoy your tea is with kombucha. A favorite of health bros and hipsters everywhere. A type of fermented tea that’s slightly alcoholic, kombucha won’t get you buzzed, but it can help provide your gut with good bacteria and provide antioxidants. So if you’re curious about trying the latest craze, give it a go! More research is pouring in and it points to good things for kombucha.

So whether you need some ice tea with a shot of lemon, some fermented Himalayan brew, or you’d like a hot cup of green tea, consider reaching for the bags or strainer instead of the 2 liter.

Coffee

Coffee as an alternative to soda

A favorite of the Wall Street Prowler, Struggling Artist, and Parent up at 4 with a Crying Baby, coffee is ingrained in American culture. While much of the world prefers a cup of tea to start the morning, American’s can’t get enough of a hot Cup of Joe.

Caffeine in coffee is typically a bit higher than what you’d get in a can of Coke, Pepsi, or Dr. Pepper. So if you really need a kick in the morning, a fresh brew of coffee could be the answer.

Coffee’s health benefits are pretty inline with the other alternatives to soda that we’ve listed so far. So rather than repeat myself too much, I’m going to list some of the unique benefits that coffee can give.

  1.  Lowered risk of Parkinson’s
  2. Fighting off Depression
  3. A better sex life.
  4. Contains essential nutrients like Vitamins B2, B3, B5, manganese and potassium.
  5. Metabolic rate boosts of 3-11%
  6. Living longer in general

Gentlemen, it’s time to ditch the sodapop bullshit and grab something else. It’s time to get something that get actually benefit you. Don’t try to just replace one with the other either, try a healthy mix of all these different options, along with exercise and you’ll be going from a soda gut, to six pack in no time.

Ghost Toast – Shape Without Form

Shape without form promo

Hungarian progressive metal band, Ghost Toast, is releasing a their newest album on March 3, 2020. Shape Without Form, from Inverse Records, will be available in digital format as well as limited physical copies on CD.

While listening to Shape Without Form several facets immediately jump out at the listener. There is impeccable production values, thoughtful song writing, and neither of these crafts intrude for the sake of metal.  Shape Without Form delivers plenty of heavy thrash guitars and double bass kickdrum while simultaneously adding the “experimental” elements that Ghost Toast is known for.

Special thanks to Joni at Inverse Records for arranging a one-on-one with the guys in Ghost Toast!

Slickster – Track #1, Frankenstein’s, mixes together a lot of different styles of the hard rock/heavy metal genre, but inlcudes some heavy thrash elements combined with progression influences.  How did you compose this track and what were you thinking about?

Ghost Toast – The aim was to create an opening song that unites the two most definitive elements of our music – the score-type thing and the heavier, riff-centered music, with attention to not actually reveal everything in the first track though, so the fact that it is shorter than usual is actually intentional and the score part here is only represented by the piano and the synths. The piano intro has existed for a longer time but we couldn’t find a proper place for it earlier, and we’d been thinking that the key to this song could be the harsh tempo and various mood-swings as surprise elements.

Slickster – Have all of the musicians of Ghost Toast attended music school, or did you teach yourself?

Ghost Toast – László (dob), János Stefán (bass, fx, etc.) and Bence (guitar) were mostly self-taught, but János Pusker did actually get degrees in various schools of music, he’s an accomplished professional musician as such.

László Papp - drums from Ghost Toast

Slickster – We don’t often speak with musicians from Hungary.  What’s the music scene like there at the moment?  Do fans support live music much?

Ghost Toast – There’s a huge number of bands in Hungary, many of which represent a pro level of musicianship. You can find quite an amount of excellent records in all genres. However, these bands are very scarce to find among the regular live performers within the country itself. The attendance of the underground concerts/shows varies, there are some popular places where the numbers are better, but mostly it’s only a couple of people who go to these events regularly.

In Budapest, for example, the reason is mainly that the number of bands exceeds the “size” of the country, and in the countryside there are very few people who actually want to get to know new bands. Those that have some kind of presence have no problems though, nor do the known foreign ones, in spite of the higher ticket prices, so the number of such events are pretty high as well.

Slickster – Track, “Y13”, has a cello droning in the background.  Can you discuss why you used the cello here?

Ghost Toast  We use the cello quite a lot, it’s one of our core instruments – there are examples in Hunt of Life or W.A.N.T, as it is the main instrument of our Janos Pusker. Y13 is a song which resembles most the ideas of movie scores, and the cello goes very well with these, it is ideal for enhancing main themes and motives and it also usually determines the background of these tracks which we are just delighted to be able to have.

Slickster – Can you briefly share how Ghost Toast was formed, how long you have been together, and who writes most of the music.

Ghost Toast – We officially formed in 2008 and this record was created by the original line-up. Almost everything has changed since the old days, when all songs were conceived and written in the rehearsal room by just being there and jamming a ton. By now, the base themes are written by Janos Stefan and Bence and with Janos Pusker and Laszlo contributing with their ideas we all shape the songs together into their final form, should that be about song structure, melodies or themes.

Slickster – What are the lyrics, sung by the female vocalist, on Hunt For Life saying.  Can you provide an English interpretation for us?

Ghost Toast

As the song itself says in the beginning, it’s about a raven (“or a crow!”), looking for food. It’s in Icelandic, not Hungarian – we have not yet used any Hungarian samples so far, though. But that might change in the near future, who knows ☺.

“The raven slept in a rock-rift
On a cold winters night There are many things that can hurt him.
Many things that can hurt him
Before a beautiful day came
He pulls his frozen nose
From underneath a big rock
Underneath a big rock
Everything is frozen outside
You can’t get anything at the beach
I’m so hungry I’m so hungry
If I go to a house Fatathome (a nickname for The dog)
forbids me To pluck from the garbage
To pluck from the garbage
The earth is covered in ice
There is no where to “set the table” (to sit and eat)
Full-fledged birds can fly far.
Full-fledged birds can fly far.
But even though
I look everywhere
There’s just one color
What can a raven eat?
What can a raven eat?
Dead, lying on its side is
A fat mutton near a fence,
Who once was fast. Once was fast.
‘Caw, caw! Namesakes (Ravens), come here!
Caw, caw! cos’ ready for us is, a feast on cold ice. a feast on cold ice.’”

Slickster – Has Ghost Toast ever composed for videos or video games?  Is that something that the band would be interested in?

Ghost Toast – We actually did some tunes for a phone app/game which was developed by a friend, and did a soundtrack for a childen’s stage play, and we are looking at composing some stuff for an animated short movie in the near future. This is really something that we are interested in, we like this kinda’ stuff, whoever is interested should feel free to give us a hint!

Slickster – Thanks for talking to Slickster Magazine and sharing your music with us.  Is there anything else you’d like to say or promote before we end the interview?

Ghost Toast – To all of you people who like the record Shape Without Form we would like to bring to your attention our earlier work (like our previous record Out Of This World) and we like to think it’s worth to follow us on social media as we continue to work and release stuff every now and then, and we just MAY release some brand new material earlier than one would expect! Thanks so much for having us, peace be with you all!

Ghost Toast is:

László Papp – drums
János Stefán – bass, fx
Bence Rózsavölgyi – guitar
János Pusker – cello, keyboard

New Baldocaster album and interview

Baldocaster returns with Mirage, a follow up to Moonrise

Lazerdiscs recording artist, Baldocaster, once again ventures into the outer realms of galactic imagery and soundscapes.  His newest album, Mirage, will be available on 28th February 2020 on a variety of platforms.  He is even hinting at a limited quantity, physical copies, run of the album.

Mirage is FFO of the expanding synthwave genre, and features ten original tracks of electronic music.  While keeping true to the roots of the musical movement that blossomed into mainstream existence several years ago, Baldocaster continues to develop his own unique voice.  Utilizing easily memorable melodic snippets, with multiple layers of synth textures and groovable beats, Baldocaster crafts an enjoyable listening experience.

Fans of the abrasive dark synth genre may find Mirage a tad on the saccharine side, but the album is far from soulless pop fodder.  Imagine that you, the listener, could drive a white 1986 Ferrari Tesstarosa around a moon base in the year 2069, with a bevy of spandex-clad aerobics models in the seats next to you.  You would keep a copy of Mirage, preferably on CD, a finger’s touch away in your Panasonic five-disc carousel, and the space waves would keep you cruising all night.  That’s what Baldocaster’s Mirage is in a nutshell.

Slickster: Can you detail a few areas in which you have most developed musically between Moonrise and Mirage?

Baldocaster: I definitely tried to make all of the parts evolve, ebb and flow more. The palette of sounds is wider too. I was employing more interesting tones, including some digital stuff like a DX7. Overall the sound has gotten a bit more modern and French I think.

Slickster:  Would agree with the scientific fact that you’ve far surpassed the musical skills of Caspro by at least a minimum of 12 parsecs?

Baldocaster: False. Caspro is a master of illusion celebrated far and wide.

Slickster: In your opinion, what is the current state of synthwave, and where do you envision it heading in the 20’s?

Baldocaster: It seems to have broadened into quite a few sub genres with different trajectories. I know everyone is slowly moving away from the initial 80s outrun feel that got us all into it at the start. I’ve personally always enjoyed the more fringe artists who blend lots of disparate elements. I think each of these directions are going to keep pushing further into newer things.

Baldocaster Mirage promo pic

Slickster:  Mirage opens with the track ‘Canyons’, with ice-like timbres and slick beats.  When in the writing process for the album did this track manifest, and how did you compose it?

BC: Canyons was actually the very first song I wrote for Mirage. It definitely set the tone and style as I went forward on the other songs after. I had the main riff and melody in an entirely different version of the song that was much more like my first album. But it just didn’t excite me at all, doing something so similar. When I was messing with newer clean and hard hitting drums the main riff just came back and I rewrote the whole thing pretty quickly!

Slickster:  Do you find that you tend to compose melodies, beats, or chord progressions first?

BC: It pretty much always about finding or crafting an inspiring sound for me. Then I’ll write a part to make use of that. I usually start with some sort of riff – a sequence or bass part, then I’ll come up with a compelling chord progression and mold it to that. Before Dawn started similarly except the chords came first.

Baldocaster black and white promo

Slickster:  The majority of synthwave music falls firmly into a 4/4 time. (Editors note: that means four beats to a measure, with the quarter note getting one full beat).  Is this limiting for you in terms of composition, and do you ever try to break out of the “four on the floor” kick drum doldrum?

BC: I don’t really stick to that myself but the feel of 4 on the floor has certainly got power. I like the contrast different rhythms and grooves against it to accentuate the impact that the driving rhythm can have. Even if you’ve got the drums in straight quarter notes lots of interesting stuff can happen with other instruments being syncopated. I’ll throw in a bit of odd meter on some songs if it feels right. The goal there is usually to make it so nobody even realizes it’s something strange.

Slickster:  In your previous interview with Slickster, you said, “Respect the moon.  Do you still respect the moon, or do you now disrespect the Earth’s O.G. satellite, and find yourself giving shoutouts to other celestial objects?

BC: Haha! I mean, the Moon is a wonderful place. This album is a bit more grounded and was written with a desert journey vibe in mind. It’s still pretty spacey though, so maybe a desert planet?

Slickster: Now that Space Force is kinda’ a thing, do you feel the moon would be a creative place to dream up synthwave tracks?

BC: The thought of actually going into space is genuinely terrifying to me. I do not want. You can’t make me.

Slickster:  Is it possible the editor of Slickster took entirely too many painkillers before soothing-out to Mirage and typing these questions?

BC: We’re gonna package every CD with some quaaludes so everybody gets the same experience.

Slickster:  Mirage is polished.  It’s an album that is very easy to listen to, but not easy-listening.  I mean, no one would ever confuse Mirage, for say, Chicago Greatest Hits, but there is a satisfying buttery feeling to the entire album.  Rich chord progressions and aural echo bliss sneaks around every dark corner, like a…. (insert inappropriate metaphor here).  Was this your plan all along?

BC: I think so. Like a big ole butter log. I tried to take all of the songs in slightly unexpected directions throughout. And smothered them in sweet echo. Pacing it all with some quieter moments always helps too.

Baldocaster plays on keyboards

Slickster: I see.  You are truly an ambassador for La Luna.   What message will you share with all that read this?

BC: Thankyou to every single person that listens to, streams, or purchases any of my music. It still truly blows my mind that anybody takes the time and cares.

Slickster: Any shows, merch, shoutouts, corrections, etc?… Go!

BC: Shout-out to my good friend Tonebox for all his assistance putting up with me being crazy making this album. There should be some physical copies of this and my other albums, with possibly even another new EP on vinyl later this year.

Slickster:  David, thanks again for sharing your fanstastic music and answering our dumb questions.  Wish you all the best in 2020 and beyond.  Anything else you’d like to add before we sign off?

BC: Thanks so much for the kind words and taking the time! Be kind, rewind. Stay weird.
