LOS ANGELES – Bellator MMA returns to action for the first time since the global coronavirus pandemic began earlier this year, bringing the sports world to a standstill. Next Friday, July 24 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., Bellator will deliver an exciting card headlined by two of the bantamweight division’s top contenders, as Ricky Bandejas (13-3) faces Sergio Pettis (19-5) in a three-round clash on Paramount Network at 10 p.m. ET.
On March 13, Bellator made the decision to postpone that evening’s event at Mohegan Sun Arena for the health and safety of the athletes, staff and everyone involved. Keeping the health and safety of all involved as the top priority, the event on July 24 will be held without fans in attendance.
Bellator 242: Bandejas vs. Pettis airs live on Paramount Network on Friday, July 24 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT. Preliminary action will stream on Bellator MMA’s YouTube channel at 8:45 p.m. ET/5:45 p.m. PT.

Hailing from Brick, N.J., Ricky Bandejas will return to the cage for the second time in 2020 and sixth overall since signing with Bellator MMA in 2018. Coming off an impressive KO victory over Frans Mlambo at Bellator 240, Bandejas is looking to extend his current winning streak to three and is no stranger to fighting elite competition. With nine of his 13 career wins coming by way of knockout or submission, including four in the first round of action, the heavy-handed 28-year-old will be looking to notch another highlight reel finish on July 24 and earn his shot at the 135-pound world title.
A longtime UFC-veteran, Sergio Pettis made his Bellator debut in January.
When he submitted Alfred Khashakyan via guillotine a mere three minutes into their bantamweight matchup at The Forum in Los Angeles a star was reborn. Training out of the famed Roufusport gym in Milwaukee alongside his brother, Anthony, and fellow Bellator athlete Emmanuel Sanchez, Pettis won nine of his 14 UFC appearances with victories over Joseph Benavidez, Brandon Moreno and John Moraga. Now, Pettis has his sights set on a world title fight, which is all but guaranteed with a win at Bellator 242.
The main card on Paramount Network also sees a co-main event pitting Jason Jackson (11-4) against Jordan Mein (31-12), who will be making his Bellator debut, in a welterweight contest, a 145-pound bout between the always-exciting Tywan Claxton (6-1) and undefeated Jay Jay Wilson (5-0) of New Zealand, while Aaron Pico (5-3) returns to featherweight against Chris Hatley, Jr. (8-2), who upset Bellator mainstay Gaston Bolanos earlier this year.
The preliminary portion of Bellator 242 includes a bantamweight affair featuring Roufusport’s Raufeon Stots (13-1) taking on Cass Bell (5-0) of Humboldt County, Calif., a heavyweight slugfest between Steve Mowry (7-0) and Rudy Schaffroth (6-1, 1 NC) and Logan Storley (11-0) putting his unblemished record on the line against Mark Lemminger (10-1) in a 170-pound matchup.

The Palace at Auburn Hills – The End of an Era
On July 11th 2020 the final columns and roof of The Palace at Auburn Hills were collapsed with over 800 pounds of explosives. The demolition was broadcast on live on television and Facebook by local news outlets. Onlookers cheered as the structure collapsed in a cloud of dust. That dust cloud signaled the true end of an era. The moment was bittersweet.
The Palace at Auburn Hills was the home of several of Detroit’s professional sports teams but chief among those was the Detroit Pistons. They called the Palace home from 1988 until 2017 when they, and several other teams, moved to The Little Caesars Arena in midtown Detroit. In the nearly three decades that The Palace at Auburn Hills was in use, it saw history made several times.
More About The Palace at Auburn Hills
Before I get into some of those historical moments, I want to talk a little about what made the palace so special. For starters, no public funding was used to build the Palace; then-owner of the Pistons, Bill Davidson and two contractors privately financed the $90 million project. That’s closer to $200 million in today’s money. When it closed it was one of only two stadiums to not have its naming rights sold to a corporate entity; the other venue is Madison Square Garden.
The Palace at Auburn Hills was ahead of its time. In fact, it spurred the building of several comparable venues over the next decade. The luxury suites, club seating, and other amenities helped to keep the Palace and the teams who called it home profitable until the relocation to Detroit.
More than Just Basketball
The Palace at Auburn Hills was home to more than just NBA and WNBA teams. In fact, the venue housed several Detroit-based sports teams; from basketball to arena football to soccer, The Palace at Auburn Hills housed all the sports you could ever want to see. It was also a great venue for concerts and was host to many of the biggest names in entertainment.
It’s first year of operation saw Sting and Michael Jackson playing sold out shows. Janet Jackson made The Palace at Auburn Hills a stop on two of her tours. Other notable acts who stepped on the stage at the Palace were Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, and The Cure. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant played The Palace as part of their No Quarter Tour in 1995.
A History of Violence
The Palace at Auburn Hills might have been a game-changing arena but it was not without its wild nights. From assassination attempts to history-making brawls, The Palace saw it all.
No Quarter Assassination Attempt
On the night of March 31, 1995 23-year-old Lance Alworth Cunningham attended Jimmy Page and Robert Plant’s No Quarter Tour date at The Palace at Auburn Hills. Cunningham had bigger plans than watching the former members of Led Zeppelin perform, though. Believing that their former band’s music contained encoded Satanic messages, Cunningham planned to murder Jimmy Page with a knife he had smuggled into the show.
Cunningham’s plan was a complete and utter failure. He was stopped and subdued by venue security and fans. According to Auburn Hills police, he sustained minor cuts and bruises before being removed from the venue. He was approximately fifty feet from the stage when he was stopped. A completely oblivious Page continued to play Kashmir as Cunningham was ejected and arrested.
The WNBA Brawl
On the night of July 21, 2008 the Detroit Shock were hosting the Los Angeles Sparks at The Palace at Auburn Hills. In the final moments of the game the WNBA saw what might be its first on-court brawl.
A brawl was narrowly avoided when Sparks’ forward Candace Parker was fouled by Shock’s forward Cheryl Ford. Parker went after Ford but Lisa Leslie stepped in before things got out of hand. The game continued for a couple plays before things boiled over and the violence began. The ensuing brawl resulted in several suspensions as well as a season-ending ACL injury for Cheryl Ford, who was taken off the court in a wheelchair.
Malice at the Palace
The Malice at the Palace was a massive brawl that took places at a Pacers-Pistons game on November 19, 2004. It is fitting that the brawl that changed security protocols for the NBA happened at the arena that changed the standard for future venues.
There were just 45 seconds of play left on the clock. Detroit trailed by 15. Piston’s center Ben Wallace went in for a layup but was fouled from behind by Pacers’ small forward Ron Artest. Wallace retaliated by shoving Artest. The benches on both sides emptied and all hell broke loose. After a few seconds of chaos Artest laid on the scorers’ table to calm down and was hit by a cup full of liquid from the stands. He rushed into the audience and the brawl that ensued between fans and athletes would go down in history.
The Malice at the Palace resulted in a combined suspension of 146 games. Several athletes and fans were given criminal charges and some fans were banned for life from The Palace at Auburn Hills. Afterward, the league tightened security to prevent another incident like The Malice at the Palace.
A New Chapter
Time passes, things change, and even the greatest venues meet their end. The ground where the Palace stood will be developed into an office complex. The teams who once called it home will move to a corporate-named arena in Detroit. No matter what the land is used for, those with the right kind of eyes will always be able to see the place where one of the most important arenas of the 20th century once stood.

Sony has been making some big moves in the past few weeks. In early June, they revealed the sleek look of the upcoming PlayStation 5 and now they’ve made a significant investment in Epic Games. If you don’t follow gaming, you may only know Epic from their incredibly popular game Fortnite. Their importance in the digital entertainment world is much bigger than that, though. The investment, which makes Sony a minority shareholder in Epic Games, could lead to some interesting developments in the gaming world.
How Much Money did Sony Invest?
Sony invested $250 million into Epic Games. That’s right, the creators of some of the best gaming consoles in history have dropped a quarter of a billion dollars to buy a minority share in what is arguably one of the most influential development companies in the gaming world.
Over the past couple years many smaller companies have been bought out by huge corporate behemoths. Disney has bought just about every mildly successful film brand they can get Mickey’s gloved hands on. Uber bought out Postmates and the list could go on and on. Instead of taking this route, though, Sony invested in Epic Games. At the very least, the investment bodes well for next gen gaming.
A quarter of a billion dollars sounds like a huge amount of money. In this case, it is important to note that the sum landed Sony about 1.5% of Epic Games. So, even though it seems like an insane amount of money it isn’t that much in the grand scheme of things. Sony is simply putting a healthy investment into a company that has its fingers firmly on the pulse of the future of entertainment.
Epic Games is More than Fortnite
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past two years, you’ve heard of Fortnite. The free-to-play battle royale game became a cultural phenomenon. Kids loved it, people bitched about it, and tons of merchandise was sold. That may be their most recent claim to fame, but Epic Games is a huge part of the gaming world. A quick look at their site will show you that they have a rather robust collection of games. You can even get some great PC titles for free! They’re bigger than that, though.
If you have played franchises like Splinter Cell, Unreal Tournament, Devil May Cry, Mass Effect, Borderlands, or BioShock you have Epic Games to thank for that. Even if they didn’t personally develop the games, they developed the engine on which they were built. The Unreal Engine was developed by Epic Games and they continue to offer it to other creators. The engine is currently moving into its fifth generation and is only getting better.
A Realm of Pure Speculation
At the moment it is almost impossible to know what this investment will mean to the future of Sony, Epic Games, and the future of entertainment. At the very least, the next generation of games will be a bigger more immersive escape from daily life.
Epic Games has been revolutionizing entertainment for decades. There is a reason why Fortnite continues to be a fixture in the gaming world. Over the past months, Epic has rolled out some new features and events to help entertain fans in quarantine. These events include in-game movie screenings and concert events. If you take Epic’s innovative ideas and Sony’s upcoming console into account, the possibilities seem endless. Could we see more in-game live events in the future? It’s a solid possibility. Keep in mind that Sony doesn’t just focus on games. They also have a film studio with a decent collection of titles. Epic Games’ Unreal Engine was used to film a large portion of the hit series The Mandalorian. Maybe we could see some truly interesting new films or shows with the two entertainment giants collaborating to bring fresh experiences to waiting audiences.

The inevitable day you’ve been dreading has come to pass. One of your parents has moved on into the next life.
In their passing, they’ve left many broken-hearted loved ones, open bank accounts, pets, and unpaid bills that you have to take care of all while going through the grieving process. You’re not sure what to do when a parent dies or where to begin. All you do know is that you’ve got a lot on your plate.
They Must Be Pronounced Legally Dead
Before you can begin the funeral preparations, your parent must be legally pronounced dead. You can’t get an official death certificate otherwise.
If they pass away in the ER, hospital staff can perform this task. The same goes if they die at home in the presence of a hospice worker. If they pass away at home under your care, you’ll need to call 911 so they can be taken to the hospital to go through the process.
From there they will be taken to a funeral home so you can begin to make the arrangements and handle their affairs.
Let Their Family and Friends Know

Sure, here in the good ol’ U S of A there are still plenty of people lighting fireworks at all hours of the night but this band is the only Rocket I’m trying to hear right now. Their latest single Losing Breath is a polished radio-ready snapshot of the shitshow that this year has been.
Rocket has had some heavy rotation on LA rock radio including the legendary KROQ. They were featured on the LA date of the Make America Rock Again tour, which included some of the biggest names in radio rock from the early 2000s. Honestly, as far as pop punk and alt-rock go, their pedigree couldn’t get much better. One listen to their latest single will show you exactly why they’ve been grabbing the attention of magazines, DJs, and fans.
My Initial Impression
Even though I’m pretty familiar with pop punk and alternative rock as genres I didn’t know what to expect going into this track. Over the past few years alt-rock has gotten pretty iffy to put it mildly. The closest to pop punk I go is the first few Ramones records; I really didn’t know what I was getting into. Losing Breath was like a blast from a distant past, though.
The guitars are heavy, the groove is tight, and the vocals are absolutely stellar. This feels like a track that would have crushed the airwaves in the mid 2000s. The lyrics, though, are firmly rooted in today’s America. It’s all about the pandemic, the protests, and the POTUS. Losing Breath is a summary of 2020 wrapped in glass smooth production by a group who work like a well oiled machine.
The Instrumentation
Losing Breath is an incredibly tight and well-mixed track. Everybody in the band is definitely on their A-game here. Rocket’s rhythm section is rock-solid; the groove on this track is undeniable. I’ve had Losing Breath on repeat for awhile now and still can’t help but move to it. The guitar work on this track is next-level, though. One of the reasons I’m not a huge fan of modern alt-rock is the boring guitar work and utter lack of solos. The riffs in this track are catchy as hell. I don’t know what’s going to be stuck in my head longer, the vocals on the chorus or the main riff. There’s even a killer 30+ second solo that sounds like it has its roots planted firmly in 80s Bay- area metal. In short, Losing Breath has some of the best musicianship you’re going to hear on new rock radio today.
The Vocals
Rocket’s vocalist, Janelle Barreto, has some seriously impressive range. On Losing Breath she effortlessly moves from pretty standard clean vocals to an angry snarl and circles back around to something bordering on crooning. There are ever a couple whoa-whoas. I like whoa-whoas. Bar none, though, my favorite part of this track comes in the first couple lines of the second verse. Without any warning, Barreto shifts from her baseline vocal performance into an emotional voice-cracking scream and right back. This unexpected injection of emotion is the high point of an already great track.
All in All…
All in all would I recommend this track? Hell yeah I would. There is a reason Rocket is getting so much attention in the LA rock scene and it’s about time the rest of the nation takes notice as well. It’s a solid track about the current situation but it isn’t preachy; it’s a rock song not a lecture. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania based hip hop artist Eito dropped a hot single ahead of his upcoming sophomore release. The single, “Go Crazy” is just a taste of what you can expect from the album While You Were Sleeping that is set to release in early July.
As with most of the music reviews that I do, I didn’t have much of a clue what to expect going into this single. I saw the phrase trap rap and imagined that it would be something along the lines of Kevin Gates; hard beats and lyrics about selling crack, getting stacks of money, and having copious amounts of sex. I was wrong but in a good way. Hell, I’m still not incredibly clear on what trap rap is but if Go Crazy is any indication of what the rest of the genre is like I think I may have to familiarize myself with it. At the very least I’ll pause my regular stoner rock playlist to spin While You Were Sleeping a few times.
My Initial Impression
I haven’t kept up with hip hop too much over the past decade, but I do know some good tunes when I hear them. So I grabbed a whiskey, cranked the stereo, and put on Go Crazy. It opens with a cool beat, and there are two verses nestled between a hook that repeats with slight variations that builds subtly to the climax that is Eito’s well-crafted wordplay. While the hook may get repetitive, the rest of the track has enough variety and raw talent behind it to make it a certified banger.
The Beat
The beat on Go Crazy grabbed my attention pretty much instantly. At the heart of the beat is what sounds like a laid back retro guitar chord progression that is dripping with wah and phaser; it lends a mellow psychedelic feel to the track. Under that is a bass line that sounds like it is made to rattle the bolts out of your trunk. Over the marriage of trippy guitar and windshield-breaking bass is the subtle hiss and click of a vinyl record. These three elements come together to build an incredibly interesting sonic backdrop for Eito’s lyricism. The construction of the beat could be a metaphor for Eito’s style: old school meeting new school to create something that transcends both.
The Verses
One of my biggest complaints about a lot of recent hip hop is that artists get attached to a certain cadence and delivery and stick with it. This makes their tracks sound repetitive which gets boring fast. Eito is in no danger of falling into that particular trap.
The first verse in Go Crazy feels like it would be right at home in an early-2000s hyphy hip hop playlist. The cadence and delivery in this verse reminds me of Mac Dre which, in my opinion, is never a bad thing.It’s a great nod to the hyphy roots of trap rap.
The second verse, on the other hand, is a more straight-forward affair. The lyrics in this verse paint a picture of a guy who just wants to have a good time. Eito mentions having nothing to lose and eludes to the heavies he has on speed dial to take care of any troubles that come his way; the bulk of the verse is focused on eating shrooms, getting stoned, and banging cosplay chicks, though. The two sides of the coin bring a great balance to the verse. The real take-away here is that Eito knows how to spend a Wednesday afternoon.
All in All..
All in all, would I recommend this track? Definitely. If you’re looking for something original and mellow to put on, I can’t recommend this track enough. The beat is amazing and the wordplay in the verses is just as good. You can give this track a spin on Soundcloud as well as Spoitfy.
