Junkrats, start your engines! While Blizzard has been saying that the eagerly anticipated Overwatch will release on the May 24th, that isn’t entirely true. Around 5:33 Pacific Time May 17th, senior game designer for Overwatch Jeremy Craig dropped this tweet:

release date 4

Soon after, Twitch streamer and Overwatch fan Joshy Sutherland asked a clarifying question about when it gets released. Jeremy made sure to answer directly, rather than leave fans guessing:

release date 3

And if a few line tweets don’t convince you, go check the top links from the article and see for yourself. Or check out this picture from the Amazon web-page:

release date 2

This is most likely so the game can get downloaded and installed before the servers go up. While the open beta and stress tests proved to be successful, having players simultaneously downloading the game and attempting to get on the servers sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Not only will pre-loading the game help keep Blizzard’s servers cool on launch day, it’s also an act of mercy for the players as well. Instead of agonizing over the missed play time while waiting for the game to install onto your computer, you can be done a day early and ready for the launch time.

While this news isn’t on the level of “Half-Life 3 confirmed,” the Overwatch reactors here at Slickster are reaching critical mass. This news along with the animated short featuring Hanzo and Genji is extremely exciting for fans everywhere. If you haven’t seen the short check it out.

After seeing this masterpiece I dare you to tell me that Overwatch couldn’t be a movie, or television series, or one of those sweet HBO series that are two hours each and also 12 episodes. Blizzard has been using the time since the beta to leave a trail of nothing but crumbs for fans and its been treated like a four course meal. Why is that? Because the Overwatch fans are starving for the real deal. They’re making sure that no matter what, by the end of the wait, and the start of everyone’s “watch” we only want one thing.
