TRICK OR TREAT, BITCHES. The Overwatch “Halloween” update is live! Will you be spending the night taking on Junkenstein’s zomnics? Take the Reap-o-Lantern skin for a wicked spin? Or will you go mad trying to get that ONE FUCKING THING from the loot boxes THAT NEVER COMES!? Well worry not, player, because there’s a lot to cover in this update.
This is the second major event for Overwatch as a whole, the second after the “Summer Games” event. With the Halloween update, there are new sprays, skins, voice lines, and more for characters. The user interface has received a minor face lift as well. Still no Sombra however.
The entire set of Patch Notes can be found here.
Halloween Skins, Sprays, etc.
In the update, 12 characters got a new skin to use. They were Ana, Mercy, Reaper, Soldier: 76, Symmetra, Roadhogg, Junkrat, Zenyatta, Pharah, Hanzo, Reinhardt, and Bastion. While many were hoping for the Van Helsing skin for McCree shown in the Overwatch comic, no skin is to be found. Personally I’m sad that there was not a Mei skin where she’s ACTUALLY an abombinable snowman, but oh well. Every character did receive a victory pose where they’re (ironically) buried in the ground, as well as a new voice line, spray, and Reinhardt and Winston got new emotes.
There is one important thing I’m going to mention. You can buy Halloween-related items WITH IN-GAME CURRENCY. Unlike in the much maligned “Summer Games,” if you have enough currency to buy it, you can buy the “Halloween” even items. However, some of the skins will run you 3000 coins.
“Junkenstein’s Revenge”
The new brawl is absolutely the BEST brawl to come out yet. Heavily inspired by the Call of Duty staple zombie mode, this protect the castle game mode is so. Much. Fun. Hoping online with a couple of friends to play as one of 76, Ana, Hanzo, or McCree to protect the castle of Eichenwalde. Taking on wave after wave of enemies with three precision characters and a jack-of-all-trades Soldier: 76 is pretty difficult as the rounds go on, and the waves get more intense.
Each mini-boss is intimidating in their own right. Junkenstein’s continuous volley of bombs from above is especially troublesome. I’m already sad that the even is only here for the next few weeks, because this is the kind of game mode I would just go and play by myself with a few bots. So get on Overwatch as soon as you can kiddies! And play “JUNKENSTEIN’S REVENGE.”
Sombra on the Horizon?
Theories abound for the upcoming hero, Sombra and things are sure to heat up in the coming days. After the disastrous Sombra ARG becoming nothing more than a total punch in the dick, people became apathetic towards the whole event. (Until the leaks that is.) While we wait for Sombra to reveal herself in the coming days, get your fill of the Halloween treats in Overwatch. Because once November 1 roles around, you’ll have to wait a whole year to get that sweet, sweet Mercy skin. So happy Halloween, everybody, because heroes never die! For a price.
