Five power tools all guys need

Taking care of business.

Having the right tool for a job is half the battle.  Have you ever seen your dorky friend grab a flat-head screwdriver when what they really needed was a Phillip’s head.  (If you don’t know the difference between those two, you ARE that guy!)  Let’s get tooled up!

Here is our 2022 pick for  the top five power tools all guys need.

Impact driver & drill driver combo pack

Ok, technically this is two power tools, so it’s kinda of cheating.  While both of the handheld power tools are used primarily for the same purpose, attaching and/or removing fasteners, how they work is a little different.  An impact driver adds “hammering” function to the screwing process (…snickers), and can be used for some very stubborn screws.  This much power can also quickly damage wood or other materials if you’re not careful.

Many brands of power tool manufactures offer a combo pack like this. It usually comes with a spare battery, a battery charger and a carrying bag.

Ladies, look around major holidays and Father’s Day for a discounts of gifts for the special guy or dad in your life.  Be sure to call the bag a “purse”.  Your husband will love that!

Reciprocating Saw

A stalwart saw in the garage is always a good thing.  A reciprocating saw, sometimes known as a “Saw-zall”, rapid cuts by moving the blade back and forth.  It’s different than a circular saw, which spins the blade in a circle.   Reciprocating saws can cut through all kinds of different materials, depending on which blade you are using.  For example, using a wood blade to cut through nails will result in subpar performance for sure.

When you purchase a battery powered reciprocating saw try and match the same power source as your other tools. This way, you can save money by only purchasing the saw and not the battery.

Cordless Tire Inflator

Everyone loves a blow job, right? Then get yourself a cordless tire inflator and you’ll thank yourself for the best $70 you ever spent.  You will never miss the old bike pump or driving to the gas station at the worst possible time to inflate your car tires.

Many of these tire inflators can fit in the palm of your hand and are easy to use.  Simply set the desired pressure and pull the trigger.  When the pressure setting is reached, they will automatically shut off.

Oscillating tool

An Oscillating Multi-Tool is a jack of all trades.  Think about like an ace in the hole.  The vibration feature allows it to operate in odd areas that a saw will not work. It has many uses depending on which attachment you select.  Similarly, can cut in small hard to reach places.  It also sands, and all kinds of other tasks.

Pressure Washer

Electric pressure washers are like Vespas.  Don’t knock it until you’ve tried one. True, an electric pressure washer will never be able to compete in the big leagues with its gasoline powered big brothers.  Yet, for some smaller jobs around the house and especially for washing cars it’s a cheaper substitute.  They are also quieter than gas powered pressure washers, which is an added bonus for those of us who live in close proximity to others.
