Indy PopCon Recap Day 2

Another day another set of wonderful memories! if you ask any seasoned convention attendee they’ll tell you that Saturdays are by far the most busy day. With day two in the books, Indy PopCon ass proved itself as a shining example of what a pop culture convention should be. As Ethan from Thousand Faces Cosplay told us “It’s about the fandoms, not about a profit. It’s where you can let out your inner geek!”

Games

Our day started off with a lovely interview of the video game charity “The AbleGamers”. AbleGamers helps bring assistive technology to disabled gamers, and makes sure that developers are aware of their needs like color blind mode, subtitles for the deaf, etc. They’re fundraising at Indy PopCon to help bring specialty controllers to disabled gamers. If you’d like to check them out visit their website here.

And it wouldn’t be a convention without the latest and greatest indie games getting checked out either! From pod racing throwbacks, to sausage animals playing soccer, to virtual reality fighter pilots, Day 2 came through in spades! A particular highlight of mine was getting on stage to play the pod racer Smuggle Craft against YouTubers that included the one and only OGchan. The talent that is being exhibited by these independent game producers is truly outstanding. Their dedication and passion for their craft is a breath of fresh air.

Cosplay

In addition to the games, cosplays seem to get better and better. From a  7’2″ Master Chief, to a spot on Boba Fett, to the greatest enemy in Shovel Knight, talent abounded. (The best enemy in Shovel Knight is Plague Knight by the way.) While I initially regretted not cosplaying, I’m glad that I could soak it all in on my first go round at Indy PopCon. We also had the chance to sit down with Thousand Faces Cosplay for an interview, so be on the lookout for that in the near future.

CelebritiesHADOUUUUKEN!

Aside from nerding out on the costumes, we got to take pictures with Bob, Wade, and Molly. Who knows, maybe Molly will be the next streamer to be interviewed…  But the piece de la resistance was the man, the myth, the legend, Kyle Hebert. You might know him as the narrator for Dragon Ball Z. He was kind enough to take a photo with me and even did a voice line for Slickster!

Indy PopCon has been amazing to experience, but the fun isn’t over yet! Up next is the Invasion wrestling even for some good old fashioned violence!
